Overview:The Manager of Accounting reports to the Director of Accounting and Reporting and is responsible for the maintenance of efficient accounting processes in accordance with GAAP. The manager guides the team through complex transactions to ensure transactions are recorded/reconciled, team members education is advanced, and cross-training is achieved. Manager lends accounting expertise to monthly operating reviews, financial improvement initiatives, financial forecasts, system implementations, and other special projects. The manager is responsible for staff development to promote department commitment to financial integrity, lean accounting, cross-functional collaboration, and accurate reporting.

Responsibilities:Manage the daily activities and administration of the assigned accounting team members:
- Manage staff workload, special projects, set priorities, and provide oversight and review of work performed by accounting staff and meet regularly with staff to assure responsibilities are being met.
- Maintain open and accessible environment conducive to growth of all departmental associates.
- Deadlines are enforced as necessary, and associates are given assistance as reasonably needed or requested to complete tasks.
- Work of associates is reviewed on a timely basis, and comments and/or corrections are discussed with employees as necessary.
- Cultivate and challenge associates to develop broad view of financial operations and results.
Develops and maintains efficient accounting processes to ensure accurate, timely, and standardized completion of work in accordance with GAAP:
- Ensure staff adhere to standardized accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and Lean Accounting.
- Ensure journal entries are recorded properly in accordance with policies and supporting documentation is maintained.
- Ensure general ledger accounts are properly reconciled, supporting documentation is appropriate, and reconciling items are cleared timely.
Provide input and lend accounting expertise to monthly operating reviews, financial improvement initiatives, financial forecasts, system implementations, and other special projects:
- Ensures data is provided timely and enriches the overall product by taking into consideration unique account standards that impact outcomes or timing.
- Ensure staff communicates and educates operational managers regarding accounting or reporting changes affecting their departments and financial results.
- Evaluate accounting processes for appropriate revenue/expense alignment and collaborate with leaders on solutions.
Leads the preparation and presentation of selected financial statements and other complex financial and statistical analysis:
- Ensure financial statements are prepared timely and accurately.
- Ensure financial analysis and management discussion is relevant, timely, and clearly articulated in order inform management decisions and action planning.
- Develop processes and maintain processes that further supports entity reporting.
Complete and document complex accounting analysis and process reviews in accordance with GAAP and Lean Accounting:
- Provide guidance to other team members on complex transactions to ensure transactions are recorded/reconciled, team members education is advanced, and cross-training is achieved.
- Reviews accounting interpretations and assumptions written by staff to support accounting approach and ensures conclusions are clear, comprehensive, and cite relevant accounting literature.
- Identifies opportunities and implements best practices to support lean accounting, accurate GAAP application, and appropriate internal controls. Areas of emphasis may include inventory, accounts receivable, and accrued liabilities.
Coordinates with the Director of Accounting and Reporting to ensure support of the maintenance, improvement, and testing of the ERP System:
- Ensure standard ERP work processes are documented and reflect current status.
- Ensure team members perform monthly testing of ERP updates timely.
- Evaluate system processes to maximize capabilities and streamline manual processes
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and 5-7 years' experience OR
- Master's Degree MBA, or MAA, preferred
- (CPA) Certified Public Accountant highly preferred

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $43.65/hr, but your salaried offer will be determined based upon your education and experience.
Remote Work/Work from Home:
This is an intermittent remote position, which means that the person hired will work with his or her manager to determine a schedule that includes both at home and on-site hours at a Children’s Mercy location. The incumbent must live in the Kansas City metro area.
