Position Overview
The Accounting Manager oversees systems and processes that generate primarily financial information, supporting the CFO in accounting and reporting functions. This role offers the opportunity to engage in nearly all financial processes within the organization, demanding solid accounting expertise, strong interpersonal skills, and unwavering integrity. The position requires multitasking in a fast-paced environment, attention to detail, organizational skills, and proficiency in computer systems and communication. Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Manager ensures alignment with company policies and objectives while representing the organization professionally.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, including preparation of balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, variance reports, forecasts, and other operational metrics.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts, and related documentation.
- Oversee the administration, maintenance, and enhancement of accounting and related financial software systems.
- Collaborate across departments to resolve accounting issues and recommend process improvements.
- Execute month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close procedures and ensure readiness during these processes.
- Oversee monthly tax reporting, including sales, use, and motor fuels tax submissions.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, including variance analysis, financial statements, and benchmarking metrics.
- Support the CFO in the annual budget and quarterly forecast processes.
- Drive year-end audit processes and assist in preparing financial statements with explanatory notes.
- Identify cost-reduction opportunities and support tax minimization strategies for the company and investors.
Cash Management
- Review all disbursements and receipts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures like “3-way matching.”
- Act as a liaison between vendors, purchasing agents, and internal stakeholders to resolve financial discrepancies.
- Oversee credit applications, deposits, and bank communications.
Internal Controls
- Safeguard financial assets through robust internal controls and process improvements.
- Develop and document accurate financial recording systems and identify potential inefficiencies.
- Assist with internal audits under the CFO’s direction.
Leadership and Team Management
- Manage and mentor a team of two accountants, fostering growth and cross-training within the department.
- Step in as a backup for accounting staff when needed, exemplifying a hands-on, team-oriented approach.
- Lead Board of Directors relations, including correspondence, meeting preparation, and compensation processes.
- Oversee IT functions and vendor relationships related to information technology.
Other Duties
- Support the company-wide safety program.
- Participate in leadership training and represent the company in professional settings.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills and Competencies
Technical Proficiency
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP software (Great Plains preferred).
- Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to create complex schedules.
- Strong familiarity with information systems affecting accounting functions.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience with demonstrated knowledge of general accounting principles.
- Proven ability to manage accounting functions in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
Salary
$125K w/ 10% bonus, benefits, 401K 6% match, relocation assistance; NO Sponsorship
