This role is permanent and requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Our Construction firm is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all financial aspects of our construction projects, including cost accounting, job cost, full cycle accounting, WIP accounting, and percentage of completion. This role is permanent and requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. The Accounting Manager will play a pivotal role in our financial department, ensuring our projects are financially successful and our accounting procedures are sound and compliant.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and taxes.
- Manage the cost accounting, job cost, full cycle accounting, WIP accounting, and percentage of completion for all construction projects.
- Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; collate financial reporting materials for all donor segments, and oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors; assess any changes necessary.
- Oversee and lead annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the CEO; administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
- Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
- Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/reporting system; ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to and that financial data and cash flow are steady and support operational requirements.
- Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.
- Effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the board of directors.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or MBA is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position, preferably in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Strong understanding of percentage of completion, WIP accounting, full cycle accounting, cost accounting, and job cost.
- Experience in managing processes including financial software and systems for finance and accounting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize projects to meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to lead, manage, and develop staff.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software; proficiency in accounting software systems.
