Job Summary:
The Accounting Manager will plan and direct the activities of the accounting department.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, purchasing, payables, payroll, and budget preparation; Develops, implements and maintains systems, procedures and policies; Recruits and hires accounting department staff and conducts performance evaluations; Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
- Oversees preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
- Responsible for tax planning throughout the fiscal year; files annual corporate tax return.
- Audits accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audits.
- Acts as a liaison between the Company, government and CPA auditors in providing the required information and ensuring that proper information is maintained for historical purposes.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Relationship:
Internal: Officers, Managers, Accounting, Payroll, Human Resources, and Cage staff.
External: Auditors, attorneys, banks, vendors, and government representatives.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices
- Knowledge of analyzing accounts and transactions for categorization within the general ledger.
- Excellent management and supervisory skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications and similar software.
- Ability to speak, read, write and understand English.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
Eight years or more of related experience required.
Physical Requirements:
Requires talking, listening, and sitting at a desk and working on a computer for prolonged periods. Must be able to read documents and computer screens, use a keyboard and mouse to make entries into journals and computers. Requires close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
