Accounting & Compliance Coordinator
Reports to: CFO
Status: Non-Exempt, Full Time
Summary
The Accounting & Compliance Coordinator is responsible for the monthly financial closing process, balance sheet and bank reconciliations, and overseeing the payroll process. The position also maintains grant salary reporting and other projects assigned by the CFO.
Responsibilities:
General Ledger and Balance Sheet Reconciliations:
- Assist CFO with GL entry and preparation of monthly financial statements.
- Prepare and enter standard, recurring and adjusting journal entries with supporting documents. Assist with the posting of year-end audit adjusting journal entries.
- Prepare monthly general ledger account reconciliations; research/resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly bank/investment reconciliations and journalize monthly banking fees.
- Prepare and maintain prepaid expense schedules. Maintain fixed assets module (e.g. monthly depreciation, reconciling fixed assets to GL, set-up of new assets).
- Reconcile two investment accounts (Vanguard & CFGNH) monthly and prepare year end journal entries.
- Participate in annual audit.
Accounts Receivable
- Issue accounts receivable invoices as needed.
- Research and resolve AR issues with customers.
- Review and billing invoices, as needed.
HR Liaison/Payroll Processing
- Review and approve payroll prior to processing
- Update salary by grant, and update staff FTE hours and work allocations for grants.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly payroll tax reconciliation.
- Provide employee data/compensation/headcount/staffing analyses as required
- Assist new hires/new managers on use of this client's payroll system for their respective roles.
Grant Reporting
- Prepare monthly, quarterly or semi-annual financial reports for grant funders according to contract terms.
- Ensure financial compliance with funding contracts.
Qualifications
- 5 to 7 years of accounting experience required, preferably in the nonprofit industry. BS degree in Accounting required.
- Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated proficiency with accounting software and payroll processing.
- Must be highly organized, accurate and able to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Must be able to work independently.
