Overview:The Project Accountant for the Delivery Prime Division will have overall responsibility for ensuring project billings are accurate, issued timely and collected, ensuring the review, approval and posting of project costs, monitoring the progress of projects and investigating variances of posted or committed cost to estimates.
Responsibilities:Purpose and Essential Duties
The Project Accountant for the Delivery Prime Division will have overall responsibility for ensuring project billings are accurate, issued timely and collected, ensuring the review, approval and posting of project costs, monitoring the progress of projects and investigating variances of posted or committed cost to estimates.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Ensure contract value in accounting system reflects change orders and minimize change order exposure by monitoring change orders from pending to approved
- Assist Project Manager in preparation of change orders for submittal to accounting
- Assist Project Manager in requisitioning purchase orders and subcontracts, monitoring equipment and material received and timely approval and posting of costs
- Assist Project Manager in preparation of Schedule of Values for billing purposes.
- Lead the execution of payments to all subcontractors and vendors for assigned project(s) while ensuring payments are made in full accordance with the executed Agreements.
- Reconcile actual and committed cost to original and current estimates and initiate corrections to committed cost as needed.
- Participate in monthly cost reviews and document results, investigate project variances and submit reports to project and business unit management.
- Understand labor calculations, burden and related charges
- Understand jurisdictional sales and use tax requirements for the project and ensure taxes on purchase orders and invoices are accurate.
- Ensure job costs are coded correctly and posted accurately across the accounting and project management platforms.
- Maintain any project specific programs as required (i.e. Insurance, Owner paid, Sales Tax Reimbursement, etc.)
- Collect, compile and review data to monitor internal budgets regularly and proficiently with a high level of detail and accuracy
- Prepare charts, reports to communicate data effectively and accurately. Detect and report trends
- Assist management by preparing all routine reports and any special requested reports
- Continue learning various technology, lessons learned or strategies to increase industry / position knowledge and suggest improvements
- Report on budgets, overbillings and under-billings
This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to the Delivery Prime Financial Analyst.
Qualifications:
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Four year degree in accounting or finance and
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in general ledger accounting or financial reporting is required
- GAAP (Generally acceptable accounting principles) knowledge required
- Must be able to perform and explain financial reviews with a high level of understanding;
- communicate findings competently to executive management and to project management
- Ability to prepare and present information for project management staff one on one, in groups and for corporate trainings
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
- Attention to detail, advanced organization skills and follow through is required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software required (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Strong computer skills with ability to learn and use software systems to carry out reporting functions is required
- Ability to make suggestions for improvements based on findings and all related follow through and follow up
- Must be able to accept critical feedback and make changes
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast paced environment.
- Well versed in the industry and the Company's competitors.
- Excellent multitasking skills, with the ability to perform duties outside of scope of work when necessary.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Mechanical Construction contractor experience is preferred but not required
- Self-perform specialty contractor experience is preferred but not required
- Construction accounting experience is preferred but not required
- Experience as a cost engineer, cost analyst or project cost accountant is preferred
- Understanding of construction contracting is preferred
Travel Requirements
- 0-15% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Climbing stairs.
- Remaining in a stationary position, often kneeling, standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Quiet environment.
- Light work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects up to 20 pounds.
