GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Accountant position will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting functions including the timely recording of various accounting transactions, preparation of various accounting/audit schedules, maintaining assigned grant agreements and providing staff with accurate grant information. Coordinates with financial and programmatic staff to implement new grants, meeting funder requirements, closing out grants within the funder guidelines and special projects as determined by the needs of the department.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Processes accounts payable and allocating invoices to departments, programs and grants in an automated ERP environment.
- Creates allocation for expenses based on department, program and grant spreadsheets, charts and graphs using Excel and other spreadsheet programs.
- Records of various financial transactions to the general ledger.
- Reconciles various Balance Sheet accounts timely and accurately.
- Prepares various audit schedules as required.
- Knowledge of all details of each assigned grant. Thoroughly read and understand all grant documents including proposals, contracts, budgets, and applicable Federal, state and local regulations.
- Work with programmatic and financial staff to address grant issues in a timely manner
- Collaborate with staff to prepare and submit financial reports required by funders; investigate cost discrepancies within program budgets.
- Review budgets to actuals by grant and make recommendations for budget modifications and submit proposed budget adjustments to funders for approval.
- Assist program staff to ensure accurate coding of invoices, proper approvals, and adequate supporting documentation.
- Monitor expenditures of grant funds to ensure ongoing fiscal grant/budget compliance, proper cost allocation and full expenditure of funds by contract end date.
- Organize and retain pertinent grant documents and communication.
- Assist with the preparation of budgets and budget narrative.
- Works on special projects as determined by Leadership.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or related field required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of accounting experience managing multiple grant funds required
- Experience with Office 365 applications (intermediate level experience working with MS Excel) required.
- Experience includes pivot tables and v-lookups required.
- Ability to reconcile various balance sheet accounts required.
- Experience working in a cloud-based ERP environment is highly preferred.
- Experience working for a non-profit organization or public health sector is preferred.
- Experience with grants preferred.
- Excellent financial analysis abilities highly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail is highly preferred.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and complete tasks on time
