The Business Development Manager will primarily be responsible for generating leads and executing sales with a focus on local governments, public and private higher education, and to airports. They will also play a key role in our EV charging sales strategy and customer success, as PowerFlex already has proven relationships and customers in these sectors such as LA County, SFO/SAN airports, and UC San Diego. This role will sell fullEV turnkey deployment and EV charging hardware/softwaresolutions. This position will be the face and voice of PowerFlex’s EV charging solutions, articulating, and quantifying the benefits directly to customers and prospects . Serving as an EV charging sales and business development manager, this is a quota carrying position and role will be responsible for generating leads, closing deals, maintaining accounts, and creating long-term account growth plans for customers throughout the US but with an emphasis in the West.
Location
This role is open to be 100% remote in California or a hybrid role out of one of our offices (Mountain View, CA, San Diego, CA or Los Angeles, CA.)
Responsibilities
- Originate new local government, higher education and airport accounts and turnkey or hardware EV charging opportunities through (but not limited to) cold calling, email campaigns, networking and participating in trade shows and conferences
- Identify new sales verticals, strategies, and lead sources to grow a pipeline with repeat customers
- Develop new and existing relationships with organization executives, energy/facility/property managers and owners
- Take full ownership of your customer’s success by ensuring high-touch client servicing and problem solving as their EV charging subject matter expert
- Regularly prepare and lead compelling virtual and in-person client presentations
- Guide EV charging customers on the value of adding onsite solar and storage (with the help of PowerFlex subject matter experts)
- Skillfully manage a pipeline of nurture and working opportunities to meet and exceed individual volume and revenue targets
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop incentive response campaigns
- Work closely with cross-functional teams in Marketing, Technologies, Engineering, Execution and Asset Management
- Immerse yourself in the EV charging space by tracking market changes, technology/OEMs, incentive programs, general EV trends and understanding the needs of EV drivers
- Prepare and maintain long-term account growth plans
- Immerse yourself in the local government, higher education and airport sectors by tracking sector trends, relevant policy and regulations, and understanding the specific needs of their constituent users
- Develop a strong technical baseline through training and development milestones
Qualifications
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
- 3 years in quota carrying direct sales role
- 5 years of sales experience in the renewable energy or energy services industries, with at least 1 year in EV charging sales
- 3 years of sales experience in the local government (e.g. cities, counties and special districts), higher education (public and/or private), or airport sectors, with responsibilities that included selling both through competitive solicitation and non-competitive procurement (e.g. cooperative buying, piggy-backing) pathways
- Experience conducting outbound origination calls, emails, and attainting sales quotas
- Experience managing a pipeline of actionable sales opportunities and leading successful RFP and RFI responses

Compensation
The pay range for this position is $138,150 - $168,849 annually. This position is eligible for PowerFlex's comprehensive Health and Welfare plans including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401(k) retirement plan and paid time off. The total compensation for this position may include an annual performance bonus (or other incentive compensation, as applicable). PowerFlex's compensation packages carefully consider a candidate's qualifications, experiences, and education in relation to the position.
Physical Requirements
Remaining in a seated position. Long hours on computer keyboard. Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking.
Working Conditions
Approximately 80% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher and Adobe etc.), telephones, and general office equipment. Possibly 20% of the time is spent traveling to conferences or meetings or field traveling to project sites.
