The School of Nursing and Healthcare Leadership (SNHCL) has an outstanding opportunity for an **ACADEMIC ADVISOR.** This position serves as a member of a professional team providing comprehensive advising services for students for two undergraduate programs, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and BA in Healthcare Leadership (HCL), and the Masters in Nursing (MN). This position supports individuals as they prepare for admission to the University and to the major, clarifying their academic interests, progressing through their program to graduation.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** 90% Provide individual and group advising to current students in the BSN, HCL, and MN degree programs. Track student progress from admission to graduation ensuring students follow approved program plans. This includes but is not limited to:
+ Educate students about the relationship between their personal strengths and interests, academic ability, and opportunities at UW Tacoma and beyond.
+ Empower students to cultivate a sense of purpose in their undergraduate education.
+ Help students overcome problems that hinder academic performance.
+ Assist students to integrate their educational and career plans, concentrating attention on developing universal skills (thinking, communicating).
+ Guide students through University systems to avoid or overcome administrative problems.
+ Foster student understanding of graduation requirements to facilitate successful realization of academic goals.5% Contribute to program discussions regarding the curriculum, schedules and delivery of services that students need.
+ Be an active member of the SNHCL team (staff & faculty) by participating in BSN, HCL, and MN curriculum committees, working closely with admission staff, contributing to and participating in program events, assisting the SNHCL recruiter, and participating in department discussions of strategic planning and growth.3% Serve as liaison to other UWT academic major(s), program(s), and administrative department(s).
+ Provide consultation to departments/schools throughout campus. This may include working on publications, serving as a resource for information and policy interpretation, or handling special problems.2% Other duties as assigned. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Bachelor's degree and three years academic advising or related experience. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ The successful applicant will possess:
+ Excellent communication and presentation skills.
+ Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
+ Ability to present information clearly and energetically to engage groups.
+ Ability to collaborate with other staff members and faculty members.
+ Ability to organize material and keep accurate records.
+ Computer proficiency including email and all Microsoft Office applications.
+ Experience working with a diverse population of college students. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Master's degree in Student Development Administration, Counseling, Higher Education Administration or a related field.
+ Demonstrated ability to work within the administrative structure of a multi-campus university.
