Position Summary:
Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a full-time ABC Carpentry Apprenticeship Instructor on our West Bend Campus. The primary teaching responsibility will be in the ABC Carpentry Apprenticeship program; however, class assignments and locations may vary from term to term. This instructor may be asked to teach at various sites within the Moraine Park District to include campus, center and business locations, and may be required to teach on days, evenings and weekends. This person reports to the Associate Dean of Trades.
The successful candidate will have an Associate degree in a related field (or willing to obtain an Associate Degree from an accredited program. Progress toward an Associate Degree will be measured through the successful completion of a minimum of six (6) credits of coursework annually, beginning with the second year of employment.) and two years (4,000 hours) of paid work experience related to the program(s) being taught, including one year (2,000 hours) of related paid work experience that has been acquired within the past five years. In lieu of this one year of recent experience, two years of post-secondary teaching experience in the appropriate occupational field within the past five years may be considered. (Two years of post-secondary teaching experience means eight semesters of part-time teaching or four semesters of full-time teaching at an accredited institution.)

Responsibilities:
• Prepare for and facilitate learning in the assigned courses according to the College’s core values. Establish a professional and safe learning environment. Set the classroom tone by modeling appropriate workplace skills and behavior. Maintain a positive climate for learning by performing classroom management and being aware of, monitoring, and enforcing the Student Code of Conduct.
• Meet student learning needs by incorporating a variety of teaching methods and assessments.
• Maintain student confidentiality, records, and documentation as required by Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Submit grades within the expected timeframe.
• Provide timely verbal and written feedback to the students to ensure continued growth and development.
• Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and updating of curriculum.
• Assist with student recruitment and proactively promote the College programs and services offered.
• Promote retention and student success through the utilization of referrals to College services and resources.
• Engage in internal and external College meetings and activities.
• Build and maintain ongoing relationships with K-12, Department of Corrections (DOC), community, and industry partners beyond the classroom.
• Actively maintain proficient knowledge and skills in emerging trends and current occupational practices. Complete annual professional development activities in areas of Faculty Quality Assurance Standards (FQAS) competencies. Complete all required training.
• Assist with mentoring faculty.
• Maintain equipment and supplies for the classroom and labs, as necessary to support the assigned program area and future trends in industry. Work with the supervisor to identify alternative funding sources, as needed.
Experience & Qualifications (in addition to those listed in the position summary):
• Experience in all of the following job duties:
o Form Building: footings, foundations, floors, beams, walls, pilasters, stairs.
o Rough Framing: floor framing, wall framing, roof framing, stair work, scaffold building, residential and commercial construction.
o Outside Finishing: siding, application of cornice, outside wall trim, setting window and door frames, and roof covering.
o Inside Finishing: application of door and window trim, fitting and installation of doors and windows, baseboards, cabinet and countertop installation, and stair work.
o Hardware Fitting: application of exterior and interior door and window hardware.
o Interior Systems: metal studs, drywall installation, and acoustical ceilings.
• Per Department of Workforce Development (DWD) 295.02(2)(b)6, Apprenticeship instructors shall meet the educational and occupational requirements of the Wisconsin Technical College System Board, or be a subject matter expert, which is an individual, such as a journeyworker, who is recognized within an industry as having expertise in a specific occupation; and have training in teaching techniques and adult learning styles, which may occur before or after the apprenticeship instructor has started to provide the related technical instruction.
• Upon hire, must maintain and/or obtain Higher Learning Commission, Faculty Quality Assurance System, and other agency requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation, if applicable.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.
Desired Qualifications:
• Certificate of Apprenticeship from the Wisconsin Bureau of Apprenticeship Standards (BAS) or federally or another state-registered program.
• OSHA-30 Cardholder.
• Any combination of necessary experience and qualifications which provides desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Other Position Requirements:
• Flexible scheduling may be required to include evenings and weekends.
• This position may require travel to MPTC (Moraine Park Technical College) campus locations other than the base location, client/contract work sites, and/or Department of Corrections (DOC) institutions.
Hiring Range: $68,444-$85,556 (178-day academic faculty contract)
