JOB SUMMARY:
To assemble major structural wing components in an open and closed bay using various sheet metal assemblies, which include different types of metals, composites, and other materials.
Wing Structure Mechanic C may be required to assist higher grade mechanics. Will learn from higher grade operators as this grade is the entry level Wing Assembler and is designed to assist and learn from the higher-grade operators.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs a wide variety of operations in the completion of wing buildup where a high level of judgment and close attention to detail is required.
- Performs assembling operations such as cutting, filing, drilling, countersinking, fitting, shimming, adjusting, clamping, bolting, reaming, riveting, and bucking where locations may be difficult to access. Requires pulling holes, performing rework, disassembly and reassembly.
- Performs work in closed bay such as drilling, reaming, shooting/bucking fasteners, reaming holes, installing hi-locks, locating parts, hand laying out holes, preparing and install freeze plugs. Must also achieve metrics: efficiency, quality and safety.
- Requires the use of specialized tools to drill and countersink numerous close tolerance holes. Required to load and unload valuable, completed wing assemblies, which require training and experience in the jig computer system.
- May be required to apply sealing, bonding agents and other liquid adhesives, in areas that are difficult to access and visually see, per specification requirements.
- May be required to install some hardware such as nuts, bolts, spring pins, cotter keys and safety wire as needed.
- Special care is needed for stress critical areas and areas of cosmetic concern.
- Rework and repair issues as needed.
- Uses hand and portable tools such as rivet gun, drill motor, portable dimpling equipment, bucking bars, de-burr tools, file, scale, etc.
- Functional testing of completed parts and assemblies may be required.
- Responsible for the quality of own work.
- Performs other related duties as required.
EDUCATION:
Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or bronze level WorkKeys certification. Requires the use of simple arithmetic, various precision measuring instruments and blueprints.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3 months, up to 1 years, of experience as a Sheet Metal Assembler or Wing Assembler or a combination of both.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Somewhat disagreeable working conditions due to access of work area, noise level of work area and dust/dirt.
