The primary purpose of the Volunteer Coordinator is to organize and direct activities of the volunteer program assisting with the operation and maintenance of the Kirkwood Park system. This includes promotion of the program, recruitment, training, and scheduling of volunteers, and administrative duties related to the program's operation.
What you will be doing:
- Develop, prepare, and maintain volunteer handbook, including descriptive information, processes, and policies.
- Develop and initiate promotional efforts for the volunteer program, including news releases, flyers, newsletters, and electronic media submissions.
- Conduct volunteer candidate interviews, determines qualification of candidates for volunteer service.
- Work with park maintenance staff members, including Superintendent of Parks and Horticulturist to schedule volunteers and their assignments.
- Maintain attendance records and prepare metrics and documentation of volunteer efforts.
- Coordinate orientation and training sessions for volunteers.
- Schedule, promote, and conduct volunteer special events.
- Schedule, promote, and conduct volunteer recognition events.
- Assist the Superintendent of Parks with development of operational budget for volunteer program.
- Procure and distribute volunteer program equipment and supplies.
- Manage the needs of the volunteers for the Kirkwood Community Garden
Our Ideal Candidate Has:
The ability to plan, organize, direct, control, and coordinate the activities of volunteer workers. The ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, both orally, and in writing. The knowledge of promotional techniques related to volunteer programs. Basic knowledge of park maintenance techniques and equipment.
Where you'll be working:
You will perform your work both inside and out, although not usually outside in inclement weather.
