Sunrise is seeking a highly proficient, business-minded lawyer with excellent interpersonal, analytical and matter management skills to join our legal team as Regulatory/Operations Associate General Counsel.
RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
Responsibilities:As a part of the Sunrise team, supporting our Mission, Principles of Service and Core Values is a fundamental part of this job. Our foundational belief is the sacred value of human life. The unique responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the essential functions listed as follows:
- Provide legal support to the Operations, Care, Asset Management, and Sales teams of Sunrise Senior Living.
- Provide advice and counsel on a broad range of legal, and regulatory matters, including ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and assisting with operational issues.
- Support business policies and practices with the ability to explain these policies and procedures clearly to others.
- Guide healthcare facility licensure and the operational compliance of long-term care facilities, including assisted living, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities.
- Draft, review, and negotiate healthcare contracts, including admissions agreements.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state Fraud and Abuse laws.
- Manage responses to federal and state surveys and enforcement actions.
- Conduct in-depth reviews and analysis of state and federal healthcare regulations to advise on implementation and operational compliance.
- Engage in negotiation and risk management for healthcare contracts.
- Maintain compliance in assigned required training and all training required by state/province or other regulating authorities as applicable to this role to ensure that Sunrise standards are always met.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- 6-8 years of experience as a lawyer in a law firm, business, or government, focused on healthcare.
- A background in healthcare is preferred.
- Attorney license in good standing and admission to the bar in at least one state.
- Possess strong business acumen and integrate legal and business objectives.
- Ability to exercise sound legal and business judgement and ability to influence at varying levels of the organization.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, especially concerning long-term care facilities.
- Familiarity with healthcare facility licensure and operational regulations.
- Expertise in federal and state Fraud and Abuse laws.
- Knowledge of privacy laws, both state and federal, preferred.
