The Veterinary Technician will provide care for research animals and general technical assistance to the researchers at the JFKUMC Neuroscience Institute.
Responsibilities:A day in the life of a Veterinary Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
1. Perform routine health care procedures and conduct animal health evaluations as needed so that all animals are seen at least weekly.
2. Evaluate animals within assigned area or as assigned and report abnormal findings to the research team.
3. Provide necessary treatment as directed by research team.
4. Communicate findings and plan with the responsible researcher and building husbandry supervisor.
5. Document animal health abnormalities, diagnostic plan, diagnosis, treatment plan, and treatments.
6. Provide veterinary technical support to researchers as per the protocol.
7. Maintain an inventory of technical and medical equipment and supplies, maintain and order supplies, keep records of annual equipment services.
8. Maintain USDA records.
9. Husbandry duties as needed.
10. Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
11. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
2. Minimum two years of relevant experience.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Proficient computer skills that may include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
2. Minimum five years of relevant experience.
2. AALAS certification as a Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) or Bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences.
