TITLE: Veterinary Technician
PAY RATE: $35.00/hr.
SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 6:00pm
LOCATION: Norfolk Animal Care Center 5585 Sabre Rd. Norfolk, VA 23502
JOB DUTIES:
• Interpret medical histories and relay pertinent information to the Clinic Director
• Safely and humanely restrain companion animals with an emphasis on fear free and low stress techniques.
• Accurately record medical information into the clinic software.
• Administer vaccinations, microchips, sedatives, pre-anesthetic drugs, and anesthetic drugs under the direction of the Clinic Director.
• Perform general anesthesia safely on canines, felines, and small mammals.
• Perform dental exams, cleanings, radiographs, and extractions.
• Perform diagnostic services for Clinic Director to interpret, document results, and communicate to Veterinary Assistants.
• Recover patients from anesthesia.
• Provide post-operative, vaccination, preventative care, medication, and microchipping counseling to clients, escalating concerns and inquiries to Clinic Director as appropriate.
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain veterinary equipment and surgical tools.
• Assist Clinic Director in oversight, training, and support for Veterinary Assistants, drafting SOPs and maintaining inventory.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds and to sit, stand, bend, stop and walk for a full workday.
• Ability to work around pet dander, dust, and other allergens.
• Must be comfortable handling dogs, cats, and other small animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to deal with difficult and stressful situations involving animals and customers.
• Ability to use computer systems and learn new software.
