Summary:
At the Cleveland, Ohio site our focus is manufacturing or remanufacturing of high-quality armature, stator, OEM coils, and field service coils for the transit industry while maintaining high quality. The VPI Operators are responsible for operating the vacuum pressure impregnation system which the armatures and stator frames are dipped in a resin before moved to the next process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- This position requires the ability to operate the tank safely and correctly to prevent equipment or component damage. Servicing the equipment and communicating maintenance requirements for the equipment will be require. This includes the process ovens.
- Assemble/Dis-assemble all plates for roll bake process.
- Perform and record equipment Servicing activities as prescribed in the VPI Manufacturing Instructions.
- Perform miscellaneous operations to aid the winding department as a Winder B, as instructed by the supervisor or work leader.
- Perform complete cycles of the VPI operation, this may require the employee to delay breaks or lunch due to cycle completion routines. When this occurs, clear communication with your Supervisor is required.
- Grinding.
- Keep VPI tanks clean Maintain all systems (oven and rotisseries)
- Baking armatures/frames in ovens (load and unload).
- Take resin samples.
- Documentation of all procedures in accordance with ISO 9000 requirements
- Accurately document work to comply with company procedures
- Other duties as specified.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School graduate, or equivalent course work in skilled crafts or trades training.
- One-year minimum industry experience in manufacturing or transportation and/or training.
- Three months of minimum experience working with VPI systems with an experienced trainer is required before working alone.
- Possess basic ship math skills, and ability to read and interpret blueprints and diagrams.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Familiarity with brazing or soldering.
- Must be able to use mechanical & pneumatic tools, electrical test equipment, and measuring instruments.
- Must have a knowledge of shop math including conversion of Celsius and Fahrenheit, ability to use standard and metric systems, and the ability to read scales and weights are required.
- Must demonstrate an understanding of vacuum pumps and all VPI systems.
Physical Demands:
- Employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- Employee is regularly required to stand/sit for 8 hours at a time, with minimal breaks.
- Employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move 50 pounds.
- Employee is regularly required to see and observe small handwriting, labels, and components.
- Employee is regularly required to operate heavy machinery, including but not limited to forklifts and cranes.
- Employee is regularly required to wear a steel toe shoes and safety glasses at all times.
- The Position requires the employee to be on-site during scheduled shift to perform daily duties and responsibilities.
Work Environment:
The employee will normally work in a non-temperature-controlled environment, with frequent exposure to electronic equipment. The employee may be exposed to extreme high heat areas. The employee is regularly exposed to polyester resin odor and silicone resin. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
