About the job
The VP of Finance will be a key member of the executive leadership team reporting directly to the CEO. The VP will be responsible for driving overall financial performance, enhancing profitability, ensuring financial compliance, and leading strategic financial initiatives to ensure that the company achieves its long-term financial goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills. The role will have two direct reports: Corporate Controller and the Planning and Analysis Manager. The Corporate Controller has a broader team that support the accounting function today.
Key Responsibilities Will Include:
Financial Planning and Analysis:
Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic decision-making.
Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and financial performance reports.
Analyze financial data and provide insights to optimize profitability and operational efficiency.
Financial Reporting:
Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Ensure that the company complies with all financial regulations and reporting requirements.
Play a role in corporate governance, ensuring that financial policies and procedures are in place to promote transparency and accountability.
Present financial results to senior management and the board of directors.
Risk Management:
Identify and assess financial risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
Develop strategies to mitigate the risk and ensure the financial health of the company.
Maintain compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies.
Establish and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Cash Management:
Manage cash flow and liquidity to meet operational needs and investment objectives.
Optimize working capital by monitoring receivables, payables, and inventory levels.
Evaluate financing options and manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions.
Maintain relationships with banks and financial institutions to access banking services, credit facilities and investment opportunities.
Strategic Planning:
Partner with senior leadership to develop long-term strategic plans and initiatives.
Evaluate investment opportunities and conduct financial due diligence for potential acquisitions or partnerships.
Provide financial insights to support business development efforts and market expansion.
Trade and Pricing Strategy:
Partner with SVP of Sales to implement a new trade and pricing strategy across businesses.
Develop mechanisms to account, track, and report on trade spending.
Implement trade tracking and administration systems.
ERP Conversion & Implementation:
Play a lead role in the pending implementation of the company’s new ERP system.
Ensure effective set-up of accounts across the new ERP system.
Guide cross-company training to ensure effective implementation.
Team Leadership:
Build and mentor a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and
continuous improvement.
Set clear performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback and professional
development opportunities.
Promote a strong ethical culture and ensure compliance with company values and code of
conduct
Required Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Master's degree or CPA strongly preferred.
Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting within the food CPG industry, with at least 5 years in a senior management role with a CPG organization.
Strong understanding of financial management and cost accounting principles, including GAAP.
Proven track record in financial planning and analysis, strategic planning, and financial reporting, data analytics.
Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to motivate and lead, coach and mentor teams effectively.
Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
Proficiency in financial software, advanced Excel and ERP systems.
