We've partnered with an innovative and VC-funded multimodal AI startup, who is seeking a VP of Data to lead and scale their data strategy. This cutting-edge organization specializes in developing AI solutions that integrate diverse data modalities, driving innovation in fields such as HealthTech, NLP, and computer vision. This role will report directly to the CTO and CEO and play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s data ecosystem, ensuring its alignment with both technical and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Strategy
- Define and implement the company’s end-to-end data strategy, encompassing data collection, processing, storage, and governance.
- Team Leadership
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing data organization, including data engineering, data science, and analytics teams. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence.
- Multimodal Data Integration
- Oversee the development of infrastructure and processes to integrate and manage complex, multimodal datasets (e.g., text, images, audio, structured/unstructured data).
- AI Enablement
- Collaborate with AI/ML teams to ensure data availability, quality, and scalability for machine learning pipelines.
- Governance and Compliance
- Establish and enforce robust data privacy, security, and ethical AI frameworks to comply with industry standards and regulations.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and business leadership, to align data initiatives with broader company goals.
- Data Insights
- Leverage advanced analytics to generate actionable insights, driving improvements in product development and business outcomes.
- Innovation
- Stay ahead of industry trends and integrate cutting-edge technologies to maintain the company’s competitive edge in multimodal AI.
Key Qualifications
Technical Expertise:
- Extensive experience (6+ years) in data-related leadership roles within AI/ML-driven organizations, preferably in a startup or high-growth environment.
- Deep expertise in data architecturemultimodal data integration, and machine learning pipelines
- Proficiency in Python, Apache Airflow, SQL, Snowflake, S3, NoSQL (MongoDB), AWS, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Hugging Face, with familiarity in DBT and MLflow for data pipelines and multimodal AI development.
- Familiarity with multimodal data formats (e.g., JSON, TFRecord, HDF5) and technologies for integrating text, image, and structured datasets.
- Strong understanding of data governance and privacy frameworks (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.).
Leadership:
- Proven track record of building and scaling technical teams, with the ability to attract top talent in data engineering, data science, and analytics.
- Exceptional leadership and mentorship abilities, with a focus on fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to balance short-term execution with long-term vision.
- Passion for driving innovation while adhering to ethical AI principles.
Compensation:
Competitive salary of $270,000 to $315,000/year with equity and additional benefits. This base is flexible to reflect the talent and experience of candidates.
