ABOUT THIS POSITION
Waystar is seeking an experienced Vice President of Data Architecture to lead our product-focused data initiatives and manage our data warehouse platform. This role is crucial in building and optimizing our data warehouse, ensuring it serves as a robust foundation for our data science and analytics efforts. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in building data warehouses, a strong background in cloud data platforms, the aptitude to build and amplify the current data product roadmap, and the ability to transform Waystar’s data stack into a Unified Data Warehouse utilizing a single technology platform.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Develop and Implement Data Strategy: Design and execute a comprehensivedata strategy that aligns withWaystar’sproductobjectivesand data needs.
Architectureand Design: Lead the creation and maintenance ofascalable, high-performanceunifieddata warehousethat provides optimized data access for analytics, reporting, product integration, machine learning,data science,and generativeAIuse cases.
Product Roadmap:Lead thedata product roadmap, emphasizingadvanced analytics, technical scale,and data accessibility for machine learning and generative AI.
Healthcare Leadership:Lead theongoingcreation of powerfuland uniquedata products that solve complex healthcareproblems.
Data Governance:Enhancedata governance policies,standards,and enforcementtomaintaindata quality, consistency, and security.
Platform and Tooling: Oversee the adoption and integration of clouddatatechnologies to ensure a cohesive data model, scalableETL/ELT,and data accessframework.
Team Leadership: Build and lead a high-performing team of data architects, product managers, and software engineers, providing mentorship, career development, and performance management. You will set the pace and velocity of the team, ensuring we can continuouslymove at a high velocitywhilecourse-correctingas needed.
Strategy:Be part of the Product and Technology leadership team, contributing to overall strategy & roadmap.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with product management, engineering, and business units to deliver solutionsthat unlock new capabilities and customer experiences.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, implementing innovative solutions to enhanceWaystar’sdata infrastructure.
Project Oversight: Manage multiple projects,ensuringtimelyand budget-compliant delivery, and provide regular updates totechnologyleadership.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Proficiency in data architecture principles, data warehousing, data modeling, SQL, ETL processes, and data integration techniques.
- Proven ability to lead and manage data architecture, product management, and engineering teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
- Extensive experience with data platforms such as Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Data Bricks, Redshift or Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
- Strong understanding of data governance practices, including data quality management, metadata management, and data lineage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to develop and execute a strategic roadmap for enterprise data architecture that aligns with business goals.
- Strong project management skills with a proven track record of delivering complex data projects on time and within budget.
Education and Relevant Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in data architecture, data warehousing, and data platform technologies.
- At least 5 years of experience in a leadership role managing data architecture, product management, or software engineering teams.
- Experience in the healthcare or technology industry is a plus.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
