Position Overview
The Director of Accounting will lead and manage all accounting functions for a dynamic real estate management and development company. This individual will oversee Property Accounting, Lease Administration and the Development Accounting team. The Director will be responsible for Corporate Accounting, Reviewing all financials from the Property Accounting team and the monthly consolidation. The role requires a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to support the growth and development of real estate projects and property management operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and present accurate financial statements, reports, and forecasts to senior management.
- Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Analyze financial data to support business decisions and optimize project profitability.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the budgeting process, including the development and monitoring of financial forecasts.
- Collaborate with property management and development teams to create project-specific budgets.
- Analyze variances between actual results and budgets, providing actionable insights.
- Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, and real estate-specific accounting standards.
- Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard assets and improve financial accuracy.
- Oversee audits and coordinate with external auditors, ensuring all financial practices are in accordance with regulations.
- Cash Management & Treasury:
- Manage cash flow to support ongoing property operations and new development projects.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable functions, ensuring timely collections and payments.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Evaluate department needs and implement technology and processes to increase efficiency.
- Foster cross-department collaboration with development, legal, and asset management teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong understanding of real estate development and property management accounting.
- Expertise in GAAP, internal controls, and tax compliance related to real estate.
- Proven track record of managing financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
- Proficiency in accounting software (Yardi, MRI, or similar real estate platforms preferred).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
