Description
We are a global engineering solutions company working closely with major Automotive, Highway, Agriculture and Construction Equipment Manufacturers and Tier 1 Suppliers to solve engineering challenges relative to Product Development, Cost Optimization, Manufacturing and Aftermarket.
The Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) team provides important insights to the automotive industry by conducting physical and virtual evaluation of vehicle design and parts to optimize performance, cost, and mass. Our team of experienced experts recommends design best practices to our customers, based on accumulated decades of automotive experience. Our work is fast paced, to ensure our customers have the data they need when they need it to make the most informed product decisions. The VAVE Manager will report to the VP of VAVE and will collaborate with the Program Management Director to drive effective delivery to customers.

Key responsibilities
Supervise a team of 10-25 VAVE Engineers
- Onboard, train, coach, evaluate new VAVE Lead Engineers
- Establish and monitor individual development plans to grow key skills: technical, strategic agility, priority setting, and communication
- Collaborate with other VAVE managers and Global Program Management Director on global common work instructions, job aids, training and tools to develop and enhance skills
- Establish career path and development goals with employees
- Deliver performance feedback and compensation changes to team members
- Monitor program workload of team, and status of scheduled gates
- Assign and balance new programs within the team based on skills and capacity
- Leverage common global tools and approaches for balancing workload
- Quickly escalate balance issues – both under and over target workload levels
- Work with leadership to find opportunities for balance
- Contribute in VAVE Global Process in identification, development and vetting of proposed design efficiency opportunities - “idea ready to proceed to customer”
- Review presentations and mentor VAVE Engineers to deliver ideas with excellence
- Coach and train VAVE Engineers to articulate and defend recommendations
- Identify VAVE process improvement opportunities through team interactions
- Drive process improvements and best practices with Global Program Management Director Develop workshop, training and other activities to improve and communicate processes
- Support VAVE Engineer in their interfaces with SMEs
- Cascade client’s current/future program outlook to team
- Escalate execution issues appropriately
Background
- Required Education - Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Required Experience/Skills
10+ years of experience in benchmarking, part design, or a related field
- Automotive industry familiarity with the product development lifecycle and related engineering processes
- Strong knowledge of VA/VE and benchmarking best practices: tools, methodologies, and performance metrics
- Excellent data analysis skills, including proficiency with Microsoft office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Strong analytical and innovation skills to identify opportunities and provide a holistic system based assessment of customer benefit
- Proven leadership abilities, with strong interpersonal and communication skills Excellent organizational and multitasking skills Excellent communication skills to create and convey clear descriptions of customer opportunities in both written and spoken communications; able to coach others
Preferred background:
- Deep experience in a specific vehicle system
- Master’s degree in Engineering or Business
