This is the second level of a two-level series. It is distinguished from the lower level by the responsibility for performing a wide variety of assignments and the assignment of more complex duties including the transferring and transportation of patients. This position is also responsible to perform all functions of the lower level, Transportation Aide 1 responsibilities. All transporting work is completed using the Teletracking transportation software and the current technology used to obtain transportation jobs.
Function/Duties of Position:- Transports patients using wheelchair, stretcher, hospital bed, and morgue cart to and from various locations include, but not limited to: nursing units, diagnostics, pre-op, life flight pad and morgue. Transfer patients to and from stretcher, hospital bed, exam table and wheelchair using transportation-assist devices such as Hovermatts, Slipps, slider boards and backboards.
- Transports medical equipment, mail, labs, blood products and supplies to and from various locations within the OHSU environment. These locations are, but not limited to: nursing units, diagnostic areas, clinics, exam rooms, operating rooms, laboratories, morgue or offices.
- Operates elevators for patient and equipment movement. Relieves elevator attendants for breaks.
- Cleans and disinfects transportation medical equipment: stretchers, wheelchairs, morgue carts, HoverMatts, pillows and utility transport carts
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED
- Excellent communication with public and staff.
- Strong customer service experience.
- Must have a positive and pleasant attitude.
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks to maximize efficiency and patient experience.
- Ability to multitask and function in stressful situations.
- Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Complete in-house training for bio hazardous items and CPR within 90 days of hire.
- Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
- Healthcare or hospital experience. Experience in safe transporting of patients, specimens, blood products, equipment and supplies
Pay Range: $17.94 - $23.90 per hour
- Risk of exposure to infectious disease, blood, body fluids and/or tissue as well as other unpleasant elements such as accidents, injuries and illness.
- Risk of exposure to and be required to handle varying unpredictable, emergency and crisis situations.
