Ekwanok Country Club 3262 Main Street Manchester, VT 05254 Tennis Professional Job Description Job Title: Tennis Professional Reports to: General Manager Employee Categories: Full-time; Seasonal (Mid May - Mid October) FLSA Category: Non-Exempt; Hourly Ekwanok Country Club is a private facility in Southern, Vermont. This beautiful tennis facility has four outdoor Har-Tru clay courts. The club also features a premier 18-hole golf course and croquet field. Ekwanok has a very complete and active tennis program including clinics, tournaments, and a Summer Children’s Camp Program. The Tennis Professional should be an enthusiastic, energetic self-starter. A prominent level of skill and playing experience is necessary. The Tennis Professional works under the direction of the General Manager. The Tennis Professional will oversee the Tennis Program. Primary Responsibilities: The Tennis Professional is responsible for group and private tennis instruction for all member age groups. He or she will grow the program and assist with program administration. The Tennis Professional will manage all tennis programming including clinics, activities, events, exhibitions, tournaments, court reservations, instructional lessons, and teaching staff for Ekwanok CC. Duties and Responsibilities: Daily Operations/ Scope of Position: • Is responsible for providing group and private lessons for all ages. • Have a working knowledge of the company operational software and be able to navigate it effectively. • Is responsible for cultivating new/existing members participation through presentations, and community awareness. • Ensure that all Members and their guests receive courteous, prompt, and professional attention. • Edit all member communications (electronic and traditional) for consistency, content, and tone. • Oversee the flow of information that Members receive via the court reservation site and e-mails. • Be visibly present at the club and courts during peak periods of play. • Maintain impeccable teaching standards, including both on and off court activities. • Provide private lessons for adult and junior members. • Maximize court usage by encouraging play and arranging games among Members. • Ensure Members’ racquets are strung within a timely manner. • Manage all member inquiries about court/lesson fees. • Foster cooperation among teaching professional staff. • Ensure adequate professional coverage throughout the week. • Ensure all equipment and supplies are stocked and well-maintained (stringing machine, stringing/ball-making tools, computer hardware/software, office supplies). • Help recruit, select, train, supervise, schedule, manage and evaluate the teaching professionals. • Develop and monitor training and education opportunities for teaching professionals and encourage self-improvement. • Enforce club policies and procedures, both on and off the court. Other Common Responsibilities: • Assist Members in using the online reservation system. • Attend and participate in weekly Ekwanok Manager meetings. • Provide a monthly report detailing monthly programming. • Provide monthly reports of court use and lessons. • Monitor daily guest activity and reconcile daily guest fees. • Manage Asst. Professional schedules and monitor daily punch-in and punch-out payroll data. • Maintain an up-to-date calendar of events for the current and upcoming seasons (minimum of rolling 90-days). • Ensure that all tournaments, exhibitions, and in-house club events are consistently organized, administered, and officiated. • Current knowledge of the state of the game and coaching techniques. • Ensure that all teaching professionals are up to date in their respective sport and provide excellent lessons. • Maintain a close working relationship with other club professionals. • Continue to seek ways to increase workflow efficiencies. • Constantly explore ways to improve all aspects of the club and member experience. • Monitor the court reservations for completeness, accuracy, appropriateness of play, cancellations, double bookings, notification needs, etc. • Coordinate with the leadership team to ensure all aspects (food & beverage, set-up, etc.) are correctly coordinated with games/events. • Coordinate with a vendor partner to ensure maintenance, repair, and cleaning of courts. • Inspect and maintain cleanliness, organization, safety, and repair throughout the court areas. • Maintain the tennis courts daily as needed. • Perform other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: • Demonstrate knowledge and excellence in sports programming by playing Tennis. • 5.0 or stronger player (current or former Division I level player or equivalent ideal). • Excellent organizational and time management skills. • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with Members in an appropriate tone and manner, both verbally and written. • Possess a high level of energy, initiative, enthusiasm, cooperation, and exercise good judgment and discretion. • Proficiency in Microsoft Word: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher. • Comfort with public speaking and ability to use critical thinking skills and conflictresolution strategies. • Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 50 lbs., up to 30 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. constantly. • Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, lifting, and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting. • Proven ability to lead a team in a collegial environment. Educational and Experience Requirements • Professional certification from the USPTA and/or IPTPA or PPA. • CPR and First Aid certifications are required. • 1-2 years’ experience and/or the equivalent in experience and training at a private, member-owned club. Preferred Requirements • Previous experience as Head or Asst. Teaching Professional for Tennis. • Professional and/or collegiate playing experience. • College Education - Bachelor’s degree. • A career path marked with stability and educational growth with USPTA.
