Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team for six months. The ideal candidate will have experience in balance sheet reconciliation, financial reporting, and cost accounting in a manufacturing environment with a strong understanding of retail operations. This role requires the ability to reconcile complex financial data across both manufacturing and retail segments while providing valuable financial insights to support operational and business strategies.
Position Responsibilities
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness. Investigate discrepancies and ensure all accounts are properly reconciled promptly.
- Prepare and review internal and external financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP, company policies, and industry standards. Provide management with clear and concise financial analysis and variance reports for both manufacturing and retail/wholesale operations
- Oversee the cost accounting process across manufacturing and retail/wholesale channels, analyzing production costs, labor, overhead, and inventory. Ensure accurate tracking and reconciliation of raw materials, work-in-progress, finished goods, and stock sold through retail and wholesale channels
- Analyze sales data, pricing, margins, and inventory turnover for retail showrooms to support financial strategies. Provide insights into profitability, product mix, and customer/channel performance, as well as manage the profitability of large wholesale transactions
- Support the month-end and year-end closing processes. Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and other documentation to close the financial period
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and external regulations (e.g., SOX). Recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy, particularly related to sales transactions and inventory management in retail and wholesale channels
- Support external and internal audit activities by providing documentation and explanations for financial transactions, balances, and controls related to manufacturing and retail/wholesale operations
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience. Strong experience in balance sheet reconciliation, cost accounting, financial reporting, and inventory management in these sectors
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Netsuite, SAP, or similar ERP systems)
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, data analysis)
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting, inventory management, and related systems
- Familiarity with the dynamics of retail and wholesale channels, including sales data analysis, pricing, and margin management
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with retail, IT, manufacturing, and finance teams
Work Environment/ Hours / Compensation
This position is a temporary 6-month assignment. The position is a full-time, hybrid role and you must be available to work at least 2 days in our Sausalito office. The hours for this position are generally 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position pays $48.00 - $55.00 hourly, based on experience.
