Temporary Building Engineer - Wissahickon Charter School

About the Job
Wissahickon Charter School is looking for a Temporary Building Engineer for our Fernhill Campus. The position will start immediately and is expected to run through at least March 10th, with the possibility of extending through the end of March. The Building Engineer is responsible for preventive and routine maintenance and repairs of the building and its systems. This includes but is not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other general building repairs. The Building Engineer will work closely with the Network Director of School Operations to ensure that all of the buildings' systems are operating smoothly and that the facilities are safe and well-maintained at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide maintenance and upkeep of the school building on a daily basis
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance and repairs on building and systems, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, general building repairs, safety and associated systems
- Complete assigned work and maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner
- Execute emergency procedures on building systems and subsystems
- Climb ladders to replace lamps and to work on equipment
- Perform operational checks to ensure equipment is operating within parameters and at maximum efficiency
- Lift equipment, tools, and building supplies
- Maintain equipment logs, records, operational data and history
- Maintain building exterior and curb appeal
- Brainstorm and implement green/environmentally-friendly solutions whenever possible
- Work with the Network Director of School Operations to order equipment and supplies as needed for the maintenance of the school building
- Other duties or special projects as assigned by the Network Director of Operations or in conjunction with the Awbury Campus' Facilities Manager
Qualifications:
- High School and/or Trade Vocational School Graduate
- A minimum of two (2) years of related work experience and/or training in a facilities maintenance position
- Experience working on complex equipment
- Required certification and/or experience in building related trades in one (1) or more of the following areas: HVAC , Electric, Plumbing and/or Carpentry
- Ability to climb ladders, to lift 55lbs or more, and to work in confined spaces
- High level of personal organization, planning, and follow-through
- Flexibility to adjust strategies in order to reach goals
- Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with a diverse group of people
- Receptiveness to feedback, positive attitude, and a desire to continuously improve
- Experience or interest in working in an urban school
- Up-to-date PA Criminal History Clearance, PA Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance and proof of a negative TB test
- Belief in WCS' mission and a belief that all children can learn and succeed
About Wissahickon Charter School
Wissahickon Charter School's first campus, Fernhill, opened in 2002 and serves 480 K-8 students from across Philadelphia. Our second K-8 campus, Awbury, opened in the fall of 2014. The mission of Wissahickon Charter School (WCS) is to provide a community of learning that stimulates and builds the child's intellectual, social, and character development.
Hours and Compensation
This position works Monday through Friday from 7 am until 3:00 pm when school is on session. It is a per diem position paid at a rate of $200/day.
