Summary:
The Teacher is a member of the teaching team who assists with care and education of an assigned group of children. The Teacher helps with planning, implementing curriculum, supervising children, communicating with parents, and providing a healthy, safe, and educational environment for children. The Teacher will be responsible for the observation and documentation of children's behavior to further guide the curriculum and will routinely share these observations of the children with their parents. Will establish and maintain relationships with parents through daily contacts, conferences, orientations, and meetings for the classroom assigned. Required Job Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 36 semester credits in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Immersive Education (EiEd), Early Childhood, or Special Education.
• (Option 1) 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) from an accredited college or university with 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) in courses related directly to child care and/or child development up to age six
• (Option 2) One year (1560 hours or more) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center and 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) in courses related directly to child care and/or child development up to age six
• (Option 3) Completion of a credentialing program approved by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
• One year of early childhood or grade school classroom experience.
• Ability to have a warm, supportive attitude toward children.
• Reliable and flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program.
• Ability to accept supervision in order to improve performance.
Responsibilities:

2. Assists with the design of an appropriate room arrangement to support the goals of the classroom.
3. Plans and implements nutritious activities.
4. Promotes healthy eating practices.
5. Maintains clean and safe environment.
6. Is aware of necessary information to ensure the safety and well-being of the children.
7. Maintains an orderly learning environment.
8. To advance physical and intellectual competence.
9. Supports a balance between child-initiated and teacher initiated activities.
10. Supports a balance between quiet and active learning activities.
11. Uses equipment and materials for indoor and outdoor play that promotes children's physical development.
12. Assists with planning and implementation of an integrated curriculum that meets the needs of individual children.
13. Plans and implements experiences that promote language and literacy development.
14. Plans and implements activities that promote the acquisition of math and science concepts.
15. Assists with extra-curricular programs such as music, gymnastics, and swimming.
16. To support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance.
17. Plans and implements activities that develop positive self-esteem.
18. Plans and implements activities that develop social skills.
19. Plans and implements culturally diverse experiences.
20. Uses and promotes positive guidance techniques.
21. Provides a wide variety of creative and expressive activities.
22. Supports routines with smooth transition periods.
23. Communicates with children at their developmental level.
24. Encourages children to be independent.
25. To establish positive and productive relationships with families.
26. Relates assessment information to parents and offers support for dealing with children at different developmental stages.
27. Supports communication with parents through progress notes, a monthly newsletter, and parent conferences.
28. Supports a variety of ways that families can participate in the program.
29. Relates information to parents regarding their health and safety.
30. Assists with the planning and implementation of an orientation meeting for parents.
31. To ensure a well-run purposeful program responsive to participants needs.
32. Assesses program supplies and materials needed before implementing activities.
33. Help supervise volunteers.
34. Assesses children's needs and developmental progress on an ongoing basis.
35. Uses the results of assessment to plan activities.
36. To maintain a commitment to professionalism.
37. Promotes the center's philosophy and educational objectives.
38. Support the center's code of ethical conduct.
39. Engages ongoing staff development to improve personal and professional goals.
40. Supports the professional growth and development of colleagues by sharing materials and information and providing helpful feedback and encouragement.
41. Attends staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training provided by the center.
