Local CPA firm seeking a dynamic and visionary Tax Director who is passionate about driving excellence in tax strategy and client service while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will lead the tax department with a clear vision, ensuring the delivery of high-quality tax services to their clients, while also maintaining profitability and upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. Create and maintain an environment in the service line that inspires team members and builds profitable relationships with clients through education, communication and constructive feedback. Must live within 1 hour of office.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Vision and Culture
- Champion the vision and culture of the firm through communication and modeling behavior.
- Coach team members to conduct themselves in accordance with firms Core Values and expectations.
- Represent the firm in the public to brand the firm, recruit talent and network with potential clients and referral resources. (i.e. through board service, chamber events, TSCPA events and Association memberships).
Accountability
- Establish clear performance goals and metrics for the tax department, holding team members accountable for results.
- Implement systems and processes to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Provide regular feedback and coaching to team members to support their professional growth and and development.
Client Care
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, providing strategic tax planning and guidance to help them achieve their financial objectives.
- Ensure that client needs and expectations are met or exceeded, maintaining strong client relationships built on trust, transparency, and responsiveness.
- Proactively identify opportunities to add value and enhance the client experience through innovative tax solutions and personalized service.
Profitability
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize the profitability of the tax department, balancing client service excellence with efficient resource utilization.
- Monitor key financial metrics and performance indicators to identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.
- Collaborate with other departments to cross-sell services and maximize revenue opportunities.
Quality Product
- Oversee the preparation and review of complex tax returns, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Establish and maintain quality control procedures to uphold the highest standards of tax compliance and reporting.
- Stay abreast of changes in tax laws and regulations, proactively advising clients and updating internal policies and procedures as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field;
- CPA or advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in tax planning and compliance.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical expertise in federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Multi-entity experience with an operating company and high-net worth owner.
- A strategic tax planning skill set to be that advisor that can help businesses manage tax liability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients and staff.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve common goals in a coaching environment.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
