The Tax Accountant I position prepares and reconciles payroll tax records, sales and use tax returns, assists with federal and state income tax returns, and supports various tax compliance projects. This is an entry-level position within Tax.
Responsibilities and Qualifications:- Prepare and reconcile payroll tax records.
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns.
- Prepare and file information returns including the 1099 and 1042 series.
- Assist in preparing federal, state, and local corporate tax returns.
- Conduct research on tax issues and provide recommendations based on findings.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to support tax filings.
- Collaborate with senior tax staff to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Assist in audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
- Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and best practices.

Knowledge:
- Basic understanding of tax laws and regulations.
- Basic knowledge of GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Familiarity with tax software (e.g., ADP Smart Compliance, Sovos, Taxport, Corptax) is a plus.
- Experience with Workday and Clearwater is a plus.
Experience:
- Experience in accounting field or internship experience in tax or accounting is a plus.
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2 years of equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
Location:
This position is classified hybrid, which requires onsite work on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, and see.
- The employee must be able to work over 40 hours per week.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.
