In the Submarine Sustainment Engineer role, you will be a part of a dynamic team located in Washington, DC. This position can also be based at our New London, CT or King's Bay, Georgia locations. As part of this team, you will be expected to bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make an impact towards our military defense and safety of our sailors.
Serco is actively seeking someone with engineering, scientific, and analytical skills to support Team Submarine in the Electrical Systems Branch of the In-Service Submarine Systems Engineering Division (NAVSEA 05U7) to manage systems engineering requirements and develop technical strategies to maintain and improve submarine system performance.
In this role, you will:
- Develop/review operational and technical written documentation such as Performance Monitoring Program (PMP) Operations manuals, Planned Maintenance System (PMS) procedures, Performance Criteria Manuals, System Health reports, Departure for Specifications (DFS), Liaison Action Requests (LARs), and Steam and Electric Plant Manuals (SEPM).
- Provide senior level technical expertise for assigned systems for all U.S. Navy submarines to include continuous systems monitoring, problem solving, evaluation/modification, maintenance and repair specifications, and technical troubleshooting and guidance for emergent fleet issues.
- Review engineering drawings (on-site, as required) and provide recommendations.
- Review and develop analytical and technical input needed to evaluate documentation and development of briefs to ensure accurate, timely and essential information is provided to decision makers.
- Influence other NAVSEA codes and Program Offices, Submarine Force Commanders, equipment manufacturers, engineering service contractors, Naval Warfare Centers, Supervisors of Shipbuilding, naval shipyards, and Performance Monitoring Teams (PMT) for maintenance of ship systems and technical issues.
- Prepare Unclassified and Classified briefs for audiences up to and including the Flag level.
- Participate and/or coordinate specified Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
- Execute Ship Design Manager and Engineering Manager’s Technical Authority for all in-service submarine classes.
- Provide engineering oversight of Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) engineering practices. Resolution of technical problems through expert knowledge of submarine systems design, operations, logistics support practices, and sound technical judgement.
- Ensures appropriate systems engineering processes are properly applied during systems life cycle sustainment.
- Plan, manage and coordinate various engineering development programs/projects which involve continuous systems monitoring, evaluation, modification, and analysis of other pertinent factors affecting system performance.
- Keep abreast of latest engineering technological advances as well as state of the art applications pertinent to the development of new products or theories within various engineering fields.

To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Active DOD Secret Clearance or an interim Secret clearance.
- US Citizenship
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other engineering disciplines
- High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of additional relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other engineering disciplines
- 5 years of experience within the DoD and/or the Armed Services.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- The ability to work both in a team environment and independently, and often under short, multiple deadlines.
- The ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
Additional desired experience and skills:
- An active or current DoD Secret clearance
- Experience in the Navy and specifically within Team Submarine or submarines in general.
- Experience as Submarine Electrician Mate and Engineering Watch Supervisor is a plus.

In compliance with the District of Columbia’s Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $91,701.62 to $152,836.04; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
