Dynamic and growing retail company is now seeking a Sustainability Manager!
The Sustainability Manager will lead the development of WH Smith North America’s sustainability strategy in North America. Reporting to the CEO, with a dotted line to the WHSmith Group Sustainability Director based in the United Kingdom.
Marshall Retail Group is part of the WHSmith Group of companies which has a strong track record of meeting high sustainability standards. This role is key to helping us grow our reputation in this area. Our parent group, WHSmith has recently launched a new Sustainability Strategy - Our Journey to a Better Business - across the three themes of Planet, People and Communities. We are looking for someone based in Las Vegas to work with our Sustainability Team in the UK and help develop and deliver this agenda in a format which is relevant for the US Market.

What you’ll be doing:
- Developing and managing programs and initiatives in support of WH Smith North America’s Environmental and Social impact activities.
- Developing and implementing a sustainable supply chain program including worker protections, supplier diversity and environmentally preferable purchasing.
- Delivering WH Smith North America’s contribution to WHSmith’s carbon net zero strategy.
- Providing environmental and social impact data for US operations to support the production of the Group’s Sustainability Report and other ESG disclosures including GRI, SASB and TCFD.
- Providing program management to track progress against ESG targets, through liaising with internal stakeholders and collecting and analyzing data.
- Engaging with external partners including landlords, suppliers, charities and employees, and supporting customer facing staff with sustainability-related questions from customers.
- Produce communication and activations to promote awareness of WH Smith North America’s Sustainability efforts.
- Train staff on sustainable programs, support cross-functional teams with implementation and employee engagement initiatives.
What you need:
- 5-10 years’ experience of working on sustainability issues, either within a corporate organization or for a consultancy advising corporate organizations.
- A good understanding of current policies, regulations, and best practice in relation to issues such as climate change, responsible sourcing and philanthropy, developed through working in one or more of these areas.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write well, develop presentations and to engage with staff at all levels including senior executives.
- A team player who can self-manage yet is willing and able to support colleagues and share best practice.
- Experience of the retail sector and / or working internationally is desirable.
