About the Job
The Powertrain Supplier Quality Engineer is the Global Supply Chain Engineering representative responsible for investigating, containing, resolving, and recovering costs from incoming part quality issues within Drive Unit and HV Battery commodity group. The successful candidate will drive cross-functional continuous improvement activities to achieve quality improvement, cost reduction, and capacity increases, while also facilitating qualification activities for part design and process changes at Gigafactory Texas and supplier locations.
- Provide interface between Supply Chain Engineering and Gigafactory Manufacturing organizations concerning supplier quality and capacity issues, changes, and improvements
- Investigate potential and escalated incoming part quality issues to determine nonconformance and drive quick and robust containment action to minimize impact to internal and external customers; Issue and drive Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCAR) for suppliers' nonconformance to systematically initiate and track their responses on issue containment, root cause analysis, and corrective action
- Collaborate with the Supplier Industrialization counterparts as needed, to facilitate suppliers' problem-solving efforts by providing feedback on adequacy and efficacy of their root cause analysis and corrective action
- Conduct part quality audits and trials at the component, subassembly, and vehicle levels as appropriate to validate effectiveness of supplier's implemented containment and corrective action to drive issues to closure
- Facilitate Change Management for changes involving part design, packaging, processes at suppliers and Tesla plants by reviewing the changes and owning quality aspects of trials (participate in ongoing change control meetings as supply chain representative for the plant)
- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve the part quality, production capacity while reducing/avoiding costs by reading across best practices and coming up with innovative solutions within Tesla and out
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, evidence of experience and exceptional ability, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of industry experience with metal forming and welding in Quality/Design/Manufacturing Engineering
- Must have robust knowledge of GD&T, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans and SPC; Experience with gage development, R&R, and correlation studies; Experience with leading manufacturing process and control plan audits
- Working knowledge of data mining and analytics using SQL and Splunk (experience developing dashboards using Power BI is a strong plus); Strong technical comprehension and oral & written communication skills; understands technical issues and able to explain them in a concise and plain manner to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Possess demonstrable leadership, project management, and cross functional collaboration and teambuilding skills; proven results directing internal, supplier and 3rd party activities and meeting customer requirements and expectations
- Ability to deal with competing priorities, ambiguity and thrive in a high-pressure, fast paced, dynamic environment with minimal supervision; Able to travel (up to 35%) throughout North America
