About the Job
The Supervisor of Biomedical Services provides planning and day to day supervision for the Biomed and Imaging technician group. This position will complete JPR�s, hire and initiate disciplinary action as required. This role represents the Biomedical Services Department in a positive manner to the Health System, customers, vendors, as well as patients and families. They are a Biomed Technical lead on projects impacting end user clinical equipment device technology throughout the organization. They participate in the evaluation and selection of new and standardized clinical equipment supporting acquisition and replacement. They work as part of the Biomed management team to develop Biomed budgets and service planning as required. They work actively, side-by-side with the technical staff on repair and preventative maintenance to ensure activities meet the Medical Equipment Management Plan and Service Level Agreement requirements.
Responsibilities:(35%)* Is responsible and provides supervision and assistance to technical staff by directing, planning, and coordinating daily operations to meet MEMP and SLA requirements. Supervises distribution of work to technical staff in carrying out the daily corrective and preventative maintenance routines of the department and facilitates the work of various technical skill levels to provide for the installation, repair and maintenance of the clinical medical equipment and systems and performs the same as required. Performs related duties and tasks as required in both emergency and non-emergency situations. (35%)*Participates in the implementation, planning, and daily review of certain capital projects. Creates, leads, and works on project teams as necessary to help implement streamlined services throughout MyMichigan Health. (30%)* Provides supervision and assists technicians in development of short and long term goals. Reviews and updates goals and objectives periodically as needed. Completes staff technical reviews and assessments. Performs all job review functions for direct reports. Interviews, selects, trains, and orients new personnel.

Equivalent Experience: Associates degree in Biomedical Technology (BMET) or related field from an accredited college. Bachelors degree is preferred.In lieu of an Associate�s degree in BMET, consideration will be given to a certificate from a military biomedical training program. An Associate�s Degree in Electronics Technology from an accredited college in combination with one or more of the following: completion of college-level course work in basic chemistry and basic anatomy/physiology, and medical terminology. Certificate or diploma in biomedical equipment technology preferred.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS: Certified Biomedical Electronics Technician (CBET) or Lab Equipment Specialist (CLES) or Radiology Equipment Specialist (CRES) required. Must obtain within 2 years of hire or transfer into the role. OEM training and certification in at least 2 specific modalities applicable to equipment currently in use at MyMichigan Health is required. Eight (8) years experience working in a hospital environment providing Biomed services related to clinical equipment technical support and some project leadership or supervisory required. Ability to do logical analysis, high literacy level, excellent customer relation skills, knowledge of clinical medical equipment systems and implementation of health care applications. Demonstrated abilities to lead high visibility projects, to work effectively and carefully under pressure, to meet project deadlines, to learn independently, to communicate effectively with a variety of people and to write well are required. Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills are also required. The ability to perform on the spot troubleshooting of equipment with little time to research the system in advance and good mechanical and electrical theory background is required. Mandatory Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training must be completed annually according to the Exposure Control Plan. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position. Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description. Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s). Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching. Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required. Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake. Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis. Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls. |
