About the Job
We are seeking an experienced electrical journeyman, substation technician, or engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for commissioning and testing of medium voltage switchgear, cables, transformers, reclosers, and protection and control systems, including SEL relays and communication equipment. This role includes significant travel across the northeast with occasional national travel.

Essential Duties
- Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of medium voltage switchgear, MV cables, transformers, reclosers, and protection and control systems in accordance with NETA/NICET standards
- Perform functional testing, including protection and control schemes, on medium voltage systems including interconnection equipment specifically PV/BESS Systems
- Ensure that all equipment is installed and commissioned in accordance with manufacturer's specifications and industry standards
- Troubleshoot and repair issues arising during commissioning
- Prepare and review commissioning documentation, including test procedures and as-built drawings
- Provide technical support to other field personnel during installation and commissioning
- Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, site owners and other stakeholders
- Stay current on industry developments and new technologies in acceptance and maintenance testing.
Education & Certification Required:
- Journeyman license or Associates/Bachelor's degree in Electrical Power Engineering or equivalent electrical experience in a related field.
Experience Required:
- Medium voltage experience should be related to overhead and underground installations. This would include 15/25/35kv terminations.
- Knowledge of transformers, reclosers, primary meters, and SEL relays
- Understanding of medium voltage protection and control schemes
- Proficiency in operating test equipment, including power system simulator, power factor test set, VLF/tan delta, etc.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to work independently and in a team environment
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Specialized or Technical Knowledge Licenses, Certifications Preferred:
- Inverter and/or BESS manufacturers’ certifications
- Thermography certifications (Level 1)
- IT/networking skills: familiarity with RS485, Modbus, tcp/ip, etc.
- OSHA 30 Certification
- Completion of NFPA 70E courses
- CPR/First Aid
Functional Knowledge:
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code and standard design/construction practices
- Clear understanding of OSHA safe workplace practices and procedures
- Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams as well as other construction/DAS/design drawings or permitting documentation
Company/Industry Related Knowledge:
- Electric and related utilities and utility maintenance
- Solar energy installation, maintenance, and optimization
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to move safely over uneven terrain
- Ability to sit or drive for prolonged periods
- Ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 50 pounds
- Ability to work in extreme weather
