Structural Ironworker
Qualifications:
- Must have 4+ years' experience as a Structural Ironworker
- Must possess all Knowledge Skills and Abilities for positions (see below)
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements
- Must be able to work at heights
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must have experience with the erection of steel, layout, rigging, field fabrication, etc.
- Ability to read, and understand IFC drawings and details as well as structural drawings and specifications (locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required)
- Being able to know the correct installation based on the orientation
- Rigging, knowledge of all types of safe rigging practices (chokers, slings, etc.)
- Structural connection knowledge
- Correct procedures of bolting, torque vs tension, turn of the nut method, Skidmore testing
- Knowledge of specialty tools (welding machines, torque wrench, torque guns, mag drills, chain falls, come along)
- Knowledge of cutting torch, set up, dangers, usage, cleaning, types of tips, and when to use the different types
Responsibilities:
- Plan work and execute work safely and efficiently
- Structural Ironworkers will construct and erect iron/steel structures to specifications
- Identify all tools required for daily tasks and identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate safety concerns documented in the daily reports
- Hoist material, equipment, and tools into the location for work to take place using proper rigging techniques
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment (elevations) of structural-steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, and/or levels
- Connect columns, beams, joists, and girders with proper bolting procedures
- Brace structure during erection (cable guying, tension/compression braces)
- Welding and cutting (as required)
- Knowledge of welding (machine setup, proper types of rods for each application, general maintenance, etc.)
- Knowledge of oxy-fuel torch (torch set up, general maintenance, etc.)
- Knowledge of boom lifts, extended reach forklifts, scissor lifts, and cranes
- Basic maintenance (inspections)
- Safe operations and practices per OSHA
- Signaling of equipment (NCCER)
- Flagging of cranes, forklifts, man lifts
- May be required to perform heavy lifting
- Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, work off platforms and/or aerial equipment, and may occasionally work out on an open structure using the proper fall protection as required per OSHA. All employees working at heights over 6' are required to be tied off per OSHA.
- Will be required to wear proper PPE ((PPE) including but not limited to a hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, safety vests, gloves, and steel-toe work boots
