THE POSITION Stores Specialist Essential Job Duties: The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed here. Receives deliveries of supplies, materials, and equipment, and ensures the accuracy of quantity and nature of good received. Unpacks, tags, and stores all incoming materials and supplies. Operates a forklift in loading, storing, and issuing supplies in the warehouse. Packs and delivers supplies to operating departments. Issues and distributes goods and vehicle parts to the Equipment Maintenance Division and other City departments. Assists in researching and identifying parts and components needed for the repair of motorized equipment, such as medium/heavy trucks and transit buses using parts and supplies catalogs. Reads and interprets vendor parts and supply catalogs and maintains effective and productive working relationships with internal and external customers. Utilizes multiple computerized inventory systems to process transactions. Reads and interprets computer reports relating to availability of warehouse items. Expedites vendor deliveries and places inventory orders when needed. Follows-up with vendors to confirm delivery dates and updates the required system records. Records all receiving and issuing transactions. Maintains proper inventory levels by determining reorder points and initiating requisitions to replenish supplies. Packs, tags, and ships outgoing equipment, goods, and supplies for returns, surplus, or auction. Recommends improvements to layout of storage facilities and methods of inventory control. Performs regular and annual complete physical inventory counts and makes appropriate adjustments to system records. Maintains the warehouse in a clean and orderly condition. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education High school graduation or equivalent. Experience One (1) year of experience working in a stockroom/warehouse and receiving, storing, and accounting for goods and supplies, and vehicle parts. License and Certificates: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Parts Specialist certification is preferred. Work Schedule: Must be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays. EXAMINATION PROCEDURES Applicants must receive a passing score on all examination components in order to be placed on the eligible list. Written Test (weighted at 40%): To measure knowledge of warehouse practices and inventory procedures. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of 1/27/2025). Performance Test (weighted at 30%): To determine ability to safely perform Stores Specialist activities. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of 2/17/2025). Oral Appraisal Interview (weighted at 30%) : To evaluate education, training and personal qualifications. (Tentatively scheduled for the week of 2/17/2025).
