Job Summary:

Responsible for the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments. Operates processing equipment. Proficient in instrument decontamination and assembly and will be aware of the sterilization methods available and which method is appropriate in correlation with the devices that are to be processed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Decontaminate surgical instruments according to manufacturer’s instructions or as advised by the department supervisor or manager.

• Operate decontamination equipment.

• Inspect instruments after decontamination ensuring all items are clean, intact, functional, and accounted for.

• Assemble trays in a manner that ensures device sterility and presents a tray that is easy for the end user to access for use.

• Use count sheets to ensure trays are assembled accurately.

• Interface with department tracking system for all functions of processing.

• Package or containerize instrument sets according to manufacturer’s guidelines and standards.

• Load sterilizer carts in a way that ensures packaged items are not punctured or compromised; load containers and wrapped goods as recommended.

• Run daily sterilizer tests on all sterilizers.

• Operate sterilizers according to manufacturer’s instructions ensuring every load undergoes biological monitoring.

• Document all load contents, interface load to tracking system, load cycle confirming correct parameters, monitor sterilizer to tracking system, and record all pertinent information.

• Unload sterilizers ensuring items are not compromised and store in correct location according to tracking system storage locations.

• Maintain cleanliness of department and all processing equipment.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2 years' work experience in CSPD preferred.

Certifications:

• CRCST, CBSPDT, CIS preferred.
