Shift: Shift 3
Work Schedule: 8 Hr (10:00:00 PM - 6:30:00 AM)
General Summary:
The Stationary Engineer is a licensed by the City of Chicago and is responsible for the safe and proper operation and maintenance of all mechanical equipment pertaining to the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing functions of the hospital. The Stationary Engineer operates the boilers, chillers, and answers service calls. The Stationary Engineer maintains and operates Life Safety equipment and utility management equipment for the Hospital. The Stationary Engineer demonstrates professionalism and self-motivation in order to perform all duties as scheduled or required. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides technical services for Utilities, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, steam, medical air, vacuum systems, preventive maintenance, repairs and installation according to established procedures and code requirements.
2. Maintains and operates Life Safety equipment and Utilities management equipment for the Hospital
3. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment per established Hospital PM program.
4. Interacts with outside contractors in maintenance duties as scheduled or required.
5. Effectively communicates to management and staff both verbally and in writing to maintain a safe environment.
6. Takes ownership of assigned zone to improve the zone maintenance program.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Must be a City of Chicago Licensed Stationary Engineer.
2. Must have Graduated High School or equivalent (GED)
3. Completion of apprentice Program.
4. Must have 5 years of relevant work experience in the operation of pressurized boilers, chilled water plant equipment, electrical distribution equipment, lighting equipment, plumbing systems, and refrigeration equipment.
5. Ability to read and work from architectural and mechanical blue prints, drawings, and schematics.
6. Basic interpersonal skills, analytical skills, and the ability to concentrate.
7. Safe use of testing equipment, hand and power tools.
8. Capable of lifting building supplies weighing up to 60 pounds as much as 30% of work time. Generally able to conduct physical activities associated with the performance of this job.
9. Experienced with computers with an understanding in using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Internet.
