Your role as a Staff Optical Systems Engineer requires expertise in optical systems and provides technical leadership for new product development and innovation in genetic analysis instrumentation.
What will you do?
- Understand customers and passionately represent their needs in optical system product requirements
- Partner with product management to translate customer needs into optical system requirements
- Design optical systems
- Develop optical models, analyze optical tolerance stack-ups, and lead sensitivity analysis
- Partner with the Operations team leading the design transfer
How will you get here:
Education
BS/MS/Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in an Optical Engineering field, Applied Physics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
Experience
- Ph.D. or equivalent experience with 3+ years of industry experience, or MS or equivalent experience with 5+ years of industry experience, or BS or equivalent experience with 7+ years of industry experience.
- Track record of developing moderate complexity RUO instrumentation
- Has been optics lead or sub-team optical lead through product development cycles which incorporate optical imaging systems
- Experience building, and maintaining optics lab
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Deep understanding of fluorescence-based optical detection systems
- Solid foundation and hands-on experience in optics, optical physics, optical instrumentation, and system troubleshooting
- Experience with optical modeling tools, including ZEMAX
- Knowledge of materials and processes used in the manufacture of optical components
- Familiar with the key technical elements of genetic analyzers
- Able to champion and align collaborators on technical trade-offs relative to optical solutions
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $129,400.00-$172,500.00.
