About the Job
The Staff Engineer - Alternators will focus on synchronous alternator design, validation, and three-phase power system analysis. The synchronous alternators are used in generator set assemblies for standby power generation. The Staff Engineer will be a technical power systems expert for engineering and other functional areas of the Rehlko Power organization. Technical emphases for the position include islanded and paralleled power system analysis, alternator performance, and communication on practical power engineering practice.
Specific Responsibilities:

Develop wound rotor and permanent magnet synchronous alternator electromagnetic designs using lumped parameter tools, magnetic equivalent circuits, and finite element analysis.

Work in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders to deliver and test working prototypes and validate first article production machines.

Solicit best practices from internal peers and external resources on machine design.

Provide expertise and support to the applications engineering group for customer and application-specific issues.

Support education of internal and external stakeholders on power systems fundamentals.

Assist in optimization of new and existing power systems for performance and cost.

Provide model guidance for power system simulation in Simulink, SKM, and other power system toolsets.

Limited domestic and international travel (<10%).
Requirements:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering with targeted graduate coursework in electric machines.

Experience with electromagnetic finite element tools (e.g., Ansys Maxwell or Altair Flux) is considered a plus.

Demonstrated skills in communication and project coordination.

Experience with reference frame (qd0) analyses, symmetrical component analyses, and/or islanded power systems is considered an advantage.

Hands-on experience with electric machine testing is also an advantage.

The salary range for this position is $98,900 - $125,600. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
