About the Job
About the role: Our client makes a real-time micro- and nano-materials metrology sensor that is enabled by cold atmospheric plasmas. The sensor is compact, can be integrated within existing manufacturing lines, and can collect multiple material property measurements (such as thickness, density, resistivity, contaminate identification, chemical composition) in parallel and in real-time, thus allowing for the collection of critical manufacturing data that is otherwise unobtainable. Out Client is currently applying the sensing framework to industrial materials manufacturing processes such as Lithium-ion batteries semiconductors, membranes, and packaging/barrier coatings, where this flexible framework can be used to accelerate R&D and process optimization, improve quality control, and enable real-time process control. Our Client is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the development and implementation of advanced engineering solutions for a high-performance real-time metrology platform that incorporates advanced cold atmospheric plasma, optical, thermal, mechanical, and electrical systems. The successful candidate will manage complex projects, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and provide technical expertise to drive innovation and ensure product excellence. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of technological innovation, working with cutting-edge systems in a collaborative and dynamic environment. If you are a driven and skilled engineer looking to make a significant impact in the metrology industry, we encourage you to apply. Qualifications: B.S./M.S./PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years industry experience
Experience autonomously leading independent electrical design projects, in particular those that involve designing a product that can be integrated into a larger system.
Strong experience in developing and optimizing embedded controls and subsystems, including FPGA design, VHDL, firmware optimization, signal/image processing, real-time data processing, and proficiency in C and C++.
Experience with hands-on development of prototypes
Experience with initiating and maintaining supplier support
Experience with maintaining awareness of customer needs and iterating on designs accordingly
Experience with electrical design for manufacturing environments – experience with roll-to-roll and/or sheet-to-sheet processes is a huge plus.
Experience with FCC, CE, and UL certification is a huge plus
Familiarity with high-voltage devices
Experience with performing sensitivity analysis and using the results of those analyses to inform future electrical designs e.g., quantifying a prototype’s sensitivity to certain environmental disturbances and creating an electrical design that mitigates the effects of those disturbances
Prior exposure to high-precision, high-throughput industrial designs for material handling, metrology, and/or process automation applications are a plus.
Experience taking designs from initial concept development to product launch. Design for reliability, manufacturing, and service (DFx) are a plus.
Demonstrated the ability to adapt to new technical challenges and excited to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to rapidly create and iterate upon prototypes based on client and team feedback
(Preferred) Experience with metrology equipment and sensors, particularly those used for metrology of advanced materials Description: Heavily contribute to the electrical design and validation of the the cold atmospheric plasma-based metrology sensor
Interface with a small, cross-functional project team to research, develop, and validate new concepts for low-temperature plasma-based metrology
Perform fundamental studies to characterize and understand the sensitivity of the sensor performance to various environmental factors
Closely interact with both small and large clients to iterate on the design based on their feedback, paying close attention to integration speed
Create and maintain technical design documentation (e.g., requirements, wiring diagrams, part schematics, and test reports)
