Job Title: Staff Accountant
Job Overview:
Our client, a leading player in the construction industry, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their finance team. This role is crucial in managing financial records, ensuring the accuracy of project costs, and supporting our accounting functions tailored to the construction sector. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction accounting and a strong understanding of project-based financial management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Cost Management: Track and manage costs associated with construction projects, including labor, materials, and subcontractors. Ensure accurate job costing and financial reporting for each project.
- General Ledger Maintenance: Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness in the context of construction activities.
- Billing and Collections: Prepare and issue client invoices based on contract terms, track accounts receivable, and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Accounts Payable: Process vendor invoices, manage accounts payable, and ensure timely payment for goods and services.
- Job Cost Reports: Generate and review detailed job cost reports, analyzing variances between budgeted and actual costs to provide insights for project managers.
- Contract Management: Assist in managing construction contracts, including verifying compliance with contract terms and monitoring project budgets.
- Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular reconciliations of bank statements, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies resolved.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and project profitability reports.
- Audit Support: Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations related to financial transactions and project costs.
- Compliance and Process Improvement: Ensure adherence to construction industry accounting standards and company policies. Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience: 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in construction accounting software (e.g., Viewpoint, Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Knowledge: Solid understanding of construction accounting practices, including job costing, contract management, and revenue recognition.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent analytical skills with a focus on accuracy and thoroughness.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with project managers, vendors, and other team members.
- Organization: Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CPA certification or progress toward certification is a plus.
- Familiarity with construction project management processes and financial controls is advantageous.
