Job Description:
Seeking an Accountant to join a growing company in the greater Philadelphia area.
This is a Hyrbid role.
Only local candidates will be considered.
Position Summary
The Accountant position is responsible for the day-to-day accounting activities of the organization. This includes reconciling the general ledger, supporting the monthly/quarterly/yearly close, reconciling accounts, maintaining records for compliance and internal controls, preparing financial report and other related financial activities. Additionally, this position will support the Union Members with benefit plan related questions and concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting
- General Ledger Manager: Maintenance and reconcile the general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP standards,
- Month/Quarter/Year End Close: Support the monthly, quarterly, and year end close processes, including the preparation of journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Account Reconciliation: Reconcile complex accounts including cash, prepaid expenses, inter-company, and other accounts as needed.
- Internal Controls: Maintain internal controls and related accounting policies/procedures.
- Audit & Tax support: Provide timely and accurate audit and tax support for external audits and various plan tax filings (941, 945, 1099, 1099R), including gathering relevant documentation.
- Ad Hoc Reporting and Analysis: Provide detailed financial analysis and reports as needed for Senior Manager, utilizing excel spreadsheets with pivot tables and advanced formulas.
- Other areas of support:
- Support the Finance Director in various projects and continuous improvement initiatives,
- All other related duties
Operational Accounting
- Benefits Administration Processing:
- Support the pension and claims administration teams ensuring that transactions are being recorded timely and accurately.
- Periodically interface with Members via email or phone, resolving benefit plan payment related queries
- Prepare and reconcile various types of payments and adjustments including payment vouchers, garnishments, death benefits, and monthly benefits.
- Support the reconciliation of the pension operating system with the banking and financial system (Oracle Financials)
- All other related duties
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting,
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting experience,
- Experience with Financial Systems (Oracle preferred), including posting journal entries, accounts payable, month end close, account reconciliation, data extract/analysis,
- Previous experience working in a financial services environment, with large data set is a plus,
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Exceptional organization skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal, written and communication skills,
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel with the ability to utilize pivot tables and advanced excel formulas (VLOOKUP, SUM, IF, conditional IF statements),
- Strong analytical skills,
- A proactive team player with a passion for continuous improvement,
- Versatile, flexible and a disposition to work in a deadline drive culture.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, talking on the phone, and working on a computer.
