Main Functions
Fralock is seeking a Senior Process Engineer with 5+ years of experience in product development and process/manufacturing engineering to join our team in Poway, CA. The senior process engineer role is responsible for technical/operational leadership of complex development programs within guidance from engineering management, program management and customer.
The individual will collaborate and support key projects, be focused on specific problems to ensure the successful growth of the engineered technical ceramics (ETC) business and help mentor other engineers. This key hire of the Engineering team will report to the Engineer Manager; all while working and collaborating closely with the business leaders and different departments across Fralock to ensure the overall success of this growing business at Fralock.
Typical Duties
- Supports and owns new product introduction (NPI) programs on behalf of product management, production and engineering.
- Participates in design reviews and contributes technical expertise for product feasibility and ideal manufacturing methods and implementation to design engineering.
- Owns development of project planning documents, including project/program scheduling, test plans and resource planning.
- Works with design engineers to develop and release new manufacturing processes and tooling, with responsibility for implementation on the factory floor.
- Interfaces with executive staff and program management leadership on all aspects of project execution.
- Primary technical interface with customer.
- Manages junior engineers and/or technicians to achieve technical or program goals and adhere to committed schedules.
- Ownership and SME of multiple manufacturing processes.
- Be the contact point and support in timely manner manufacturing to analyze root cause, propose and implement corrective actions (immediate, and longer term) and document any manufacturing out of specifications problem reported by manufacturing operation (operator, supervisors, managers)
- Design new and improve existing manufacturing processes and methods, tooling, automation and work instructions, applying Lean and Six Sigma principles.
- Manage process transfer to manufacturing through gate and exit process, including process description, process limits and specifications, work instructions and training
- Ability to provide ROI analysis of alternate methods, processes, or equipment, and create executive summaries
- Ability to realize and implement Design of Experiments
- Collaborate cross functionally to support end to end the success of the business
- Responsible for improving and troubleshooting existing manufacturing processes
- Work on work center process design and development for existing and new products, which includes choosing the right equipment, setup, tooling, process steps and writing instructions on how to manufacture
- Research new and existing equipment/ machines to check for the functionality and feasibility of customer part manufacturing
- Work on projects that will reduce lead times, internal manufacturing costs, and will improve process control and yield.
- Lead realization of work instructions and training for production operators.
- Work within QA/QC procedures with an ability to understand their scope and application, as well as waiver documentation and procedures

Preferred Skills

- Experience with multilayer ceramic manufacturing
- Experience with high temperature material interactions and sintering
- Demonstrated history of running self-directed projects, managing timelines, completing technology transfer and executing projects in an R&D environment.
- CAM software experience and proficiency
- Experience interpreting FEA/CFD results
- Hands-on mechanical and/or thermophysical measurement testing experience
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Material science, mechanical, chemical or ceramic engineering preferred
Experience Requirements
- 5-12+ years in a technical engineering role
- Experience in one or more related engineering areas: manufacturing, industrial, production, or quality
