WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Senior Consultant, Mechanical Engineer for our Virginia Beach, VA office.
Be involved in projects with our Geotechnical and Tunneling Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
A key role for the successful applicant will be to support the design and construction oversight for the operating mechanical, electrical and life safety systems on the Hampton Roads Bridge and Tunnel Expansion Project. The successful applicant will have experience in site support for transportation infrastructure projects, specifically in the mechanical and electrical disciplines.
Your Impact
- Support mechanical, and life safety system installation, testing and commissioning on large scale construction projects.
- Coordinate off-site and on-site inspections and testing of tunnel operating mechanical, electrical and life safety systems.
- Record and coordinate construction decisions and provide documentation for the defense of potential claims and for the purpose of maintaining accurate project records.
- Work independently on projects or work within a project team with other technical staff to design and detail new systems that are needed
- Ensure work is accurate and coordinated and that the quality assurance measures have been followed
- Communicate design recommendations to clients, project team, construction contractors, and vendors in presentations, workshops, meetings, via email and phone as necessary
- Develop system design proficiently in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Revit as required by each project's CAD standard
- Write reports that clearly communicate field observations, design alternatives, and design recommendations
- Prioritize work activities effectively based on assigned work and project schedules
- Tunnel ventilation experience or similar is advantageous.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline (e.g., fire safety engineering).
- 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior mechanical design experience.
- PE license (or ability to obtain within 12 months of hiring) in Virginia is required.
- Exceptional analytical and conceptual thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- A track record of following through on commitments.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Valid driver's license required
Note: This role is subject to a client mandated fingerprint-based Criminal History background check and DMV record check prior to commencement of any assigned VDOT work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Engineering.
- Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
- Design-Build experience, large projects and VDOT preferred.
- Tunnel ventilation experience or similar is advantageous.
