About the Job
FPGA Architecture and Design: Works as a member of a cross-disciplinary team of systems engineers, optical engineers, electrical engineers, and software engineers to conceptualize a system solution that meets customer requirements. Responsible for architecting, designing, and documenting FPGA designs for assigned projects. Creates design documentation including Requirements Documents, block diagrams, Design Documents, and Interface Control Documents. May serve as the lead FPGA engineer on assigned projects.
FPGA Development, Simulation, and Test: Implements FPGA designs to meet the requirements of the system under development. Develops models for algorithms and implements algorithms in FPGA logic. Simulates implemented designs and optimizes designs to meet performance requirements and timing closure. Writes test plans and simulates/tests designs at various levels of integration (logic simulation, tests on target architecture, test with target electronics).
System Integration and Test Support: Participates in developing Test Plans and supports integration and test activities from initial board-level bring-up through final system test.
New Business Development: Participates in writing proposals and providing cost and schedule estimates in support of new business pursuits.
Technical Expertise: Subject matter expert with extensive knowledge and expertise in digital design and FPGA development. Work on significant and unique issues without considerable direction. Implement new products, processes, standards, or operational plans that will have impact on the achievement of functional results.
Education & Experience
Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 10 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 7 years experience; or equivalent experience.
Skills
Must have significant demonstrated experience in architecting and designing FPGA solutions in embedded systems. Must have deep understanding of tradeoffs involved in hardware/software functional partitioning. Must have strong background in digital signal processing.
Must have a deep understanding of FPGA device architectures. Must have experience with embedded processor platforms and system-on-chip devices. Experience with AMD/Xilinx platforms is preferred.
Must have significant past experience developing in VHDL or Verilog. Must have strong debugging and troubleshooting skills. Must have experience using lab test instruments such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. Must understand electrical designs and be able to read and understand electrical circuit schematics.
Must have strong understanding of embedded hardware devices, memory devices and controllers, chip-to-chip interfaces, networking protocols, and strategies for achieving design timing closure.
Must have demonstrated experience working with cross-disciplinary engineering teams to develop and test highly-functional integrated systems.
Experience working with laser systems is desired but not required. Past experience on high-reliability systems for defense and/or space is desired but not required.
Must be able to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance if one is required to perform the job responsibilities.
