Job DescriptionOur award-winning AECOM Sports and Venues practice is seeking an Architectural and Interiors New Grads for immediate employment based in either of our three offices, located in Kansas City, MO, Los Angeles, CA, and New York, NY. The candidate is to lead and execute interdisciplinary projects with a focus on Sports, and Public Assembly, including professional and collegiate arenas, stadia and coliseums, and recreation centers.
Our Sports practice is an established leader in the market with over three decades of success. This studio-sized practice focuses its work on everything from performance and development facilities to primary competition venues, ranging anywhere from small collegiate clients to the largest of professional leagues and franchises. We look to combine beauty, sustainability, resiliency, equity, and innovation in our projects and believe these values can be instilled in any project regardless of size or budget.
Under the AECOM Buildings + Places business line, we embody the spirit of a nimble, fully integrated design firm within a fully global infrastructure organization. Services include architecture, interiors, building and system engineering, urbanism, planning (inclusive of landscape design), strategy +, economics, technology solutions, asset advisory, and cost and program management. In your role, as entry-level new hires you are eligible to participate in AECOM’s Graduate Development Program (GDP), a 2-year development experience designed to support assimilation into the organization, help with technical development planning toward licensure (or other early technical milestones), and with creating a foundation of knowledge necessary for future career success.
Position Overview:
Working closely with the Sports Studio Leader, you'll work with talented teams of architects, championing creative solutions that redefine spaces, enhance communities, and align with our commitment to innovation and sustainability. Your leadership and design acumen will shape projects that resonate with clients, inspire our teams, and leave a lasting positive impact.
The responsibilities of this position may include but are not limited to:
- Assist in the preparation of designs, quantity calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings.
- Working closely with clients and teams in various arenas, you will support ideation sessions, translate concepts into compelling design narratives, and oversee their development into actionable plans.
- Develops solutions for routine technical problems with limited scope.
- Work under general supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
- Evaluates, selects, and applies standard architectural techniques, procedures, and standards.
- Develops architectural designs to meet project specifications.
- Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and working drawings, develops details and edits specifications.
- Adapts and modifies design features and operational methods to meet a variety of situations, while maintaining conformance with established architectural practices ensuring the quality of product.
- Prepares architectural reports and progress narratives.
- Supports the work of a more senior-level architect in executing a collaborative approach to establishing a design and vision.
- Coordinates technical drawings with internal and external consultants.
- Participate in presentations of designs to clients, communities, and other interested stakeholders.
- Supports company policies and contributes to the overall dynamic team environment of the office culture.
- Must be proficient in all the latest architectural and graphic design software platforms.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture and interiors or a related discipline from an accredited university.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to work efficiently and be flexible to change.
- Be able to self-manage and work as needed independently.
- Some level of basic free-hand sketching ability for presentations.
- Excellent working knowledge of Autodesk CAD, BIM-Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Sketchup, Lumion, V-Ray, and Rhino 3D.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products.
- Experienced level of proficiency in the use of computers for making architectural drawings, calculations, and 3-D visual simulations.
- Excellent oral / written communication skills.
- A high level of organizational skills with a detail-oriented focus and a strong work ethic.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Enthusiastic about collaborating with Architects and Designers at all stages of their professional development.
- Participate in the recruitment of junior design Architects who meet or exceed the level of excellence established by your contributions to the Architecture studio
- Working knowledge in relevant zoning and building codes, including local city and county codes, state building codes, accessibility compliance codes, etc.
- Good working knowledge of sustainable and emerging technologies, integrated design, and future trends in digital innovation (parametric design, AI, etc.)
- An ability to work collaboratively as a team player with both junior staff and senior leadership.
