The Specialist, EHS will assist with the day-to-day safety and health operations of the Boca Site and assists the BioCenters with safety program management, under the direction of the Director, Environmental Health and Safety.
ESSENTIALS OF THE JOB:
- Maintain databases and records such as hazardous and non-hazardous waste manifests and associated documents.
- Assist in investigation of industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
- Advise management on potential hazardous materials and makes recommendations as required.
- Assist departments at ADMA with maintaining their hazardous materials inventories.
- Research SDS data for each hazardous material on site and generates labeling based on the Hazardous Materials Information System format.
- Assist with the maintenance of current SDS database as required.
- Identifies and coordinates waste stream management program within departments and at the satellite accumulation area on site. Coordinate scheduled collection and transport of the various waste streams.
- Coordinate special waste disposal projects as appropriate to training.
- Coordinate the waste minimization processes, i.e. material substitution or elimination, where possible.
- Assist with the pollution prevention programs in operation at the facilities, i.e. recycling.
- Assist in training ADMA users of the proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Assist with hazardous waste shipments. Performs inspections of departments for hazmat/hazwaste policy compliance.
- Inspect facilities for compliance with environmental health and safety regulations.
- Coordinates site wide movements of hazardous materials/wastes.
- Respond to hazardous materials spills such as oil, acid, ethanol and mercury and Implement clean-up plan.
- Maintain hazardous materials/waste storage containers in satisfactory condition and coordinates repairs as needed.
- Conduct weekly inspections of Satellite Accumulation Areas and Main Accumulation Areas.
- Maintain spill response materials in departments and in master spill response stations for site-related operations.
- Assist the EH&S Director and EH&S Security Supervisor with internal and external multi-disciplinary inspections of facilities, equipment and systems.
- Capable of effectively engaging with individuals at all levels across the organization.
- Perform other environmental, health and safety-related duties as required.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in safety, environmental, engineering, life sciences or a related field of study required.
- Additional specialized environmental, health, and safety training for this position to include, but not limited to formal training in hazardous waste management, hazardous materials management, respiratory protection, confined space safety, and emergency response a plus.
Required Work Schedule: 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Experience Requirements:
- 2-3 years related experience in the field of safety, health, and environmental programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, teamwork, and issue resolution.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to balance multiple job assignments at once.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills - must be able to translate technical concepts into non-technical terms for both senior level management and frontline staff.
- Experience and/or knowledge in laboratory, life sciences, and/or safety a plus.
