Position Summary
The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for environmental, health and safety compliance, training and program management for the Southwire Denton Plant. Provides regulatory expertise to ensure regulatory requirements applicable to the facility are known. Plans, organizes, and implements environmental, health and safety activities at the facility and assists in monitoring all facility activities to ensure that regulatory and company requirements are met.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Implement and maintain programs/processes to ensure compliance with all Southwire EHS program expectations and applicable federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
• Support investigation of all incidents and drive root cause corrective action.
• Implement and maintain processes that identify risk and evaluate/control hazards in the workplace.
• Conduct and track EHS training to staff in relation to environmental, health and safety policies, practices, and procedures.
• Lead Plant Safety Team to contribute to the overall health and safety of facility through engagement activities and projects.
• Support all mandatory air, water and waste compliance assurance-monitoring and reporting at the facility.
• Maintain appropriate chemical inventory record systems to satisfy regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate-based reporting systems.
• Complete, document, and submit required EHS reports and recordkeeping information.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of Southwire EHS goals.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or Science discipline or other program applicable to the health, safety and environmental fields, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional certification(s) desired.
• Minimum 3 years experience supporting environmental, health, and safety in an industrial setting.
• Working knowledge of safety and environmental management processes (VPP/ISO) and various safety and environmental regulations or standards (OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, NEC, EPA, TCEQ, etc.)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to influence people and drive change.
• Works well both independently and in a group environment.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours or shifts when needed.
