About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our talented team of engineers in the design and development of full-stack software for educational robotics products. You will play a crucial role in architecture definition, ensuring project success, and fostering a collaborative and engaging work environment.
What you"ll Do
Lead and manage a team of software engineers in the design and development of full stack educational robotics products. Areas of development include:
embedded software
device drivers
Android and Linux OS development
user-facing APIs
Windows and Mac desktop applications
web and cloud applications
factory and internal test software
Define software architecture, roadmaps, and project timelines, ensuring a positive customer experience and alignment with business objectives.
Contribute directly to the software projects.
Manage and communicate with external software design partners.
Break down complex technical problems into actionable tasks and provide clear direction to the team.
Guide the development process through all stages, from concept to production.
Develop and implement software project management processes and procedures.
Mentor and coach team members, helping them develop their technical skills and careers.
Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and guide team members to achieve their full potential.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (hardware, electrical, mechanical) to ensure seamless integration and system functionality.
Collaborate with the customer support team to resolve customer"s technical issues.
Manage and prioritize project resources, including personnel, budget, and equipment.
Interface with stakeholders to understand requirements and keep them informed of progress.
Manage and mentor software engineering interns, helping them develop their technical skills and gain valuable industry experience.
Continuously improve software development processes and tools.
Qualifications
Bachelor"s degree in Software Engineering or closely related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a software engineering role.
Hands-on experience with FIRSTĀ® and its robotics programs.
Proven experience in leading the development of complex software systems.
Experience with embedded system software development (C/C++ preferred).
Experience with full-stack development areas listed above.
Experience with proven software project management methodologies like Agile.
Strong understanding of software development best practices (version control, unit testing, CI/CD).
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
Proven track record of successfully leading and motivating teams to achieve project goals on time and within budget.
2+ years of software engineering management.
Understanding and implementation experience of motion control algorithms.
Experience with robotics system engineering.
Experience with CAN, Ethernet, USB, and other communication protocols and interfaces.

The pay range for this role is:
115,000 - 130,000 USD per year(Carrollton, TX)
