About the Job
Our freelance Social Media Assistant Manager will play a key role in overseeing the daily execution of match coverage across Tennis Channel and Tennis.com’s social media platforms. You will collaborate closely with the social media coordinators, helping them craft dynamic, engaging content that elevates live match coverage while enhancing storytelling around player journeys, rivalries, and matchups. You'll be responsible for driving creative ideas and ensuring that our live coverage is not only informative but also captivates the audience, sparking further interest in the tennis world.
This role requires someone who can lead with creativity, tennis knowledge, and editorial insight to grow our social media presence. You’ll work in an environment that embraces collaboration, innovation, and the fast-paced world of live sports.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Oversee and guide match coverage content
- Lead the social media coordinators in real-time match updates, ensuring content is both accurate and engaging while focusing on building storylines that resonate with our audience.
- Elevate creative storytelling
- Develop unique angles for match coverage, focusing on deeper tennis narratives such as rivalries, player progressions, and key match implications to keep the audience hooked beyond just the score.
- Collaborate with teams
- Work closely with social media, production, and editorial teams to ensure a seamless flow of content that highlights upcoming storylines, match previews, and post-match reactions.
- Provide in-depth analysis
- Use match stats, historical context, and player performance to create social media content that digs into the significance of matches and offers insightful commentary.
- Assist with planning and strategy
- Help in the day-to-day planning and execution of social media coverage for tournaments and events, ensuring all content is aligned with the overall brand strategy and objectives.
- Lead the creation of engaging and compelling content: Optimize content for social platforms, ensuring content remains timely and relevant to conversations within the tennis community and digital space at large.
Required qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience in fast-paced social media environment focused on content creation, preferably within the sports or entertainment industry
- Must have a passion and knowledge of tennis, including players, tournaments, match dynamics, and historical context
- An understanding of internet culture, and extensive experience creating compelling digital media content across multiple social media platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Threads, Reddit, and YouTube
- Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication, and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams, ensuring seamless coordination with social, production, and editorial staff
- Strong news/content/editorial judgement, ability to think critically about narratives translating them into engaging social media content
- Strong organizational, strategic planning and decision-making skills, with the ability to oversee and elevate daily match coverage while managing long-term content strategies
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, online/multimedia, or related field
- Knowledge of video editing and graphic design software
- Available to work morning, nights, weekends, and holidays around the tennis calendar

The base salary compensation range for this role is $69,000 to $73,000. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates’ relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.
